[Chapter 1]
"C'mon Abby! This is the last summer party we'll go before the start of school. You definitely have to go!" Hannah cries out from the other line of the phone.
"I'm not in the mood for it, really. But you and Ree can go without me." Ree and Hannah are my best friends. We three have been together forever. Not exaggerating. I can't probably think of one single moment of my life without them by my side. Our mothers were friends too so you can guess the rest. They're like sisters to me. No, scratch that. They're so much more than just sisters.
There used to be a fourth friend in our group as well but people change, that's what I've learnt from the last three months. Never mind, I don't want to talk about Mia or the fact that she stabbed my back while I least expected.
"Don't you dare think for a second you can back out." That's Ree talking now.
"Please girls, I seriously don't want to go. And my father wants me to stay home, you know that tomorrow I'm finally meeting his girlfriend."
"Yes, but your dad wants his daughter to go out more often so he won't mind you coming to the party. And you know it."
"Maybe, but I still have homework to do".
"We both know you already finished them all on the first week of July".
"And tidy my room".
"You're the freak of freaks when it comes to tidiness".
"Walk out the dog."
"You don't have a dog".
"Water my cactus, damn it!" Lame. That was just lame Abigail. I mentally slap this stupid head of mine.
Hannah lets out an exasperated sigh, not bothering to say anything back and I start to feel guilty. It's just one single party actually. A huge one indeed, so the chances to come across with them is one in a million. Okay, maybe not that but you know what I mean.
"Look, since Landon and you broke up this summer you have barely seen the sun which let me tell you, it's a crime if you live in California. Either you've become a vampire or you're stupider than I thought, so now you'll stop making excuses, get yourself ready and come with us to this party, understood?".
"Yes, sir."
So let me introduce myself. I'm Abigail Adams, Abby for the friends. A seventeen year old broken-hearted girl who found his long time boyfriend cheating on her, the one she thought she'll marry someday. I'm so naive right?
Physically, I have long chestnut hair that falls above my chest and pale grey eyes, which in my opinion are the best part of me. I inherited them from mom since dad has brown ones but the colour of the hair I got it from him.
My family is small. Dad and I only have each other because mom passed away when I was only seven due to cancer. She was very ill back then and specially more in her last days but it's curious, because that's when I remember her smiling the most, not shedding a single tear. Not once. Dad and I in the other hand couldn't say the same. We cried so much that we could have filled a whole swimming pool. But not mom, she was a really strong woman and I admire her for that.
After her death, dad was devastated. Having lost the love of his life almost killed him but I was his little princess so he kept looking at the positive sight of life and moved on. Although, my dad didn't look at other women anymore -or at least that was the plan- until he met Peyton Jensen.
