*A/N: Sorry it took so long to update but finals have taken over my life these past few days (which sucks). Anyway, I'm sure you're not here to read about my problems so I hope you enjoy the chapter! Sorry it's so short*
---------------
Dan slowly opened his eyes to see his parents talking to each other by his hospital side. He looked around and his eyes widened as he remembered what he tried to do.
"He's awake!" his mother said excitedly when she saw Dan sit up. "How are you feeling?" his father quickly asked.
Dan looked down and softly spoke, "Ashamed."
"It's okay, it's okay! You're safe now," his mother said quickly. She didn't want sadness to sweep over him again.
His father left the room to get the rest of Dan's family in the waiting room outside.
A flood of people came into his room. All 8 of his siblings and one other familiar face walked in.
"Hey," Patrick said as he walked up to his friend's side. Dan smiled warmly, "Hey."
He then looked around at everybody. All eyes were on him. He suddenly realized how much they all cared.
"I'm sorry," he said at last. "None of you deserved to go through that. None of you," he looked back at Patrick.
Dan's youngest sister scrambled up onto his bed. "Well that's okay. You're not dead!" she said bluntly. "Amber!" Dan's brother scolded her. A small wave of laughter rippled throughout the room, easing up tensions.
"Okay," a nurse walked in, "there are too many people in here. Relatives only. Everybody else has to wait in the lobby outside."
"We are his relatives," one of Dan's brothers answered on behalf of the group. The nurse look bewildered. "All of you?!"
A few of Dan's siblings looked at Patrick. The nurse eyed him suspiciously. "Yes," Dan spoke up. "He's my brother."
~THE END...~
