-Chapter 4-
I wouldn't tell her. I couldn't tell her. Brook couldn't know. I grabbed my phone and called Parker. I could tell him. He would know. I ran into the forest toward the medow. One ring...... two........ 'Come on Parker I need you now!!' I ran farther into the forest, suddenly fast and gracefull.
"Hello?" Parker's voice came over the cracking phone line, but even then it comforted me.
"Parker, I'm scared. I don't know what's happening." I ran faster, my feet barly touching the forest floor.
"Ally, what is it? What happened?"
" I... I .... I don't know. I just, I'm thirsty Parker, and I don't know what for. It burns my throat. It hurts, Parker. It hurts alot." Tears came to my eyes as the fire in the back of my throat flared again with the unquinchable thirst.
"Alex, stop were you are. Don't do anything. I'm going to come get you. Are you in the forest?" His voice was suddenly rough, frighting even. I stopped.
"Yes. I started running a few seconds ago, but it looks like I'm in the middle of the forest all ready." I realized that I hadn't broken a sweat, I wasn't even breating hard.
"Okay. Just find the medow and wait there. Don't go anywhere. Can you do that for me?"
I grimaced. "Yes. I think I can. Hurry, please. Parker, please hurry."
The line went dead and I ran in the direction of the medow, ducking branches and jumping over ferns as I went, as gracefull as ever.
And fast. I was suddenly in the medow. I stopped cold when I smelled something in the air. Warm. It smelled delicious.
I gripped at my throat as the pain grew worse. The thirst was irresistable. I sprinted head first into the forest, following the sent. I was suddenly ravenous, wanting the warmth even more than I thought possible.
There was a break in the trees. A park? Is this were the thirst was leading me? A park?
'Oh, well.' I thought, unworried.
I ran faster, barley on the edge of the trees. The sent grew stronger. Just a few more yards. I stopped and crouched behind a bush. The sent was overpowering. Willing me forward.
Don't look Alex. Don't look at what is makeing the smell. Just attack.
The Voice starteled me. 'Who is this?' I asked in my head.
No answer.
I started to look through the bush.
I said don't look.
I looked anyway. And almost barfed.
It was Brook. My sister. On the hood of the car. Sitting. Vulnerable. I was about to kill my sister. My sister. Brook. She was part of me. I grabed my stomach and walked out of the bushes, not careing what was happeing to me.
I had almost killed Brook. "What did you do now Alex?" I was stunned. I almost killed her. What was happeing to me? I turned my back to her and ran into the forest. "I'm so sorry Brook." I yelled over my shoulder. "I love you." I whispered.
