-Chapter 6-
"Alex? Alex are you okay?" I heard Brook's frantic voice from across the medow, yards away. I heard it as if she was yelling in my ear. I screamed. My insides hurt. It felt like everything was moving inside me, to make room for something. Some new body part. I sceamed again. "What did you do to her?!" Brook yelled. How could she care? After what I had almost done to her......
I screamed again.
"Nothing! I didn't do anything!" Parker yelled. 'No, Brook. Don't blam Parker.' He didn't do anything..... suddenly the pain was unbearable. I screamed as loud as I could, as if it would make the pain go away. It didn't help. I felt something warm grab my arm. Brook? Maybe. I flinched away as if it had burned me. I suddenly realized that the smell from earlier was back, very, very strong.
I was suddenly very hungry again. Extreamly hungry.
All of a sudden Alex was gone. Alex Joan Aarons was dead. Everything about her. Everything and nothing.
I was a new person, or thing anyway. My heart went cold. My body frooze, mid-scream. I couldn't hear or see anything. My mind was a million miles away. I saw red. Flowing red. Blood.
The reason I had almost killed Brook moments ago. The reason for the fire in my throat. Everything was makeing sense. I felt stronger, like I could take down a whole army of full grown men. My sences sharpened. I could smell everything. The squirrl on the complete other side of the clearing yards away, the children in the park on the swingset, at least three miles away.
And the thirst grew. Irrisistable now.
I realized the sudden silence of the medow. I jumped up and swung my head around. There was the sound of two heart beats, one fast, but the other faster. Both sounded appatizing. I saw my sister, my Brook, standing next to Parker, gripping his arm with fright. Her hair was blowing in the breeze of the medow, stiring the air with her sent.
I fought to stay still.
Parker leaned down and whispered into Brook's ear. "Run. When I say go, you run as far and fast as you can away from here. I'll follow you. I promise I won't get hurt." He looked smug on that last bit.
"I'm not worried about you. I'm worried about Alex," she said. I smiled. But even this show of feelings couldn't stop me.
I leaned into a crouch and got ready to strike.
All of a sudden there was a wolf in the clearing. A black wolf. Large. No, huge. Standing next to my sister. It growled and I realized it was Parker. "Go!" He yelled. Brook stood for a moment, then ran. Who do I go after? Wolf or girl?
Get the wolf. The girl won't be able to run far and you'll be done with the wolf in seconds.
I obeyed. I sprang at the wolf, the Parker wolf, my best friend. I shook the thought from my head. I could think of feelings after the kill. He sprang to, colliding with me midair. He took over me, throwing me to the ground. He landed on top of me, holding me down with his giant front paws. The sent of his heart, his blood, was driving me crazy. I grabbed his right paw and yanked, pushing it towards his front, causing him to fall down. I jumped from the ground and stood up, slightly hunched over, getting ready to spring if he got to close. The Parker wold stood and started to circle with me.
"You don't have to do this Ally," he said in a soothing voice, "You don't have to be this way."
Then I jumped, letting my fangs come out, and sinking them into his skin.
