Chapter 10
When Michael and Dr. Reeves finished their conversation and talked to some of the guests, they came over to where we sat. "Everyone, Mr. Ellison here is going to be following us to St. Matthew's." Dr. Reeves announced. We all nodded and stood up. He headed towards his car. The others followed.
"Um, Cassie?" Michael asked. I stopped and looked at him.
"Yes?"
"Would you ride with me? I have some other things that I need to tell you." I nodded.
"Okay." He smiled.
"Let's get going shall we?" I smiled back and followed him to his car. He had an old-looking pick-up truck. I got in and shut the door. Once he got in and started the car, I buckled my seat belt. "How long have you known that Simon was your brother?"
"Close to two months."
"I wish there was some way that I could have done something." He said, shaking his head.
"Don't blame yourself. I could've found him sooner, before she shot him. I should've heard her take him. I mean, she was in a car, for God's sake! How could I not hear a car screech to a stop and then take off? She left skid marks on the street." I muttered the last part.
"You shouldn't blame yourself either, you hypocrite." He said, rolling his eyes. I smiled.
"I know, I know. I'm bad about that." I said, rolling my eyes too. He chuckled.
"So what grade are you in?"
"Junior, where do you work at?"
"Construction worker; I didn't get to finish high school, because of my job. I couldn't do the whole go to school and then going straight to work right after. I was behind on my homework and my grades were pretty much in the toilet. So I just gave up on it and decided to work full time. It pays good, so I'm not broke or anything. I have an apartment on the other side of town and it's a two bedroom. So I was wondering if you'd like to come and stay with me."
"Can I think about it?" A bit shocked at how sudden he asked me.
"Sure. I'll give you my cell phone number and you can call me later when you've decided."
"Thanks."
"Also I was wondering if you wanted to do something this week. You know, so we can get to know each other better and then we can try and cheer ourselves up." I smiled.
"That sounds good to me."
"Great. I'm off on Friday. We could go see a movie or something."
"Okay."
"I'll pick you up around four?"
"Four is good." I said as we pulled into the driveway. I unbuckled and we got out of the car. I shut the door and we followed the others into the house. "So what are you going to do here?" I asked as we made our way to the door.
"I'm going to gather some of Simon's things. Of course, I'll let you have some of his stuff too, so you can remember him."
"Thanks." He smiled.
"No problem." We went inside and stopped in the living room.
"Cassie, Dr. Reeves told me to tell you that you should take your brother up to Simon's room." Allie said, smiling. I nodded. Then she went into the kitchen.
"It seems Simon had some good friends." Michael said as I led him up the stairs.
"Some very good friends." I said smiling and agreeing completely with him. We walked all the way to Simon's room and I opened the door. We walked in and Michael went looking around.
