I can't believe I was so stupid around that guy. I'm just glad Mathias is idiotic and naïve. He always has been. I hear the bell ring. Oh well. It's not like I've ever gone to any classes anyways. I haven't for a rather long time. I press down on the button on my hair pin. Come on, Emil... A buzz confirms he's picked up.

"How did your mission go, brother?" I ask. There's silence and then giggling from the other end.

"Um, really well, Lukas. Yeah, really well," I hear my ninth grade brother make an overdramatic shushing sound before laughing. "Shut up Leon! We're gonna get caught."

"Leon is with you?" I ask in a panic.

"Yeah. What about Mathias? I thought we had really easy soulmates to convince. Did he turn out to be feistier than expected this time?" Emil laughs again. He's never usually this happy. What did that guy do to him in the short time I left them together?

"He didn't want to be late to class. Plus I sort of messed up."

"What? Is he the wrong guy? It's almost always been him. We've only ever had someone else once or twice."

"Does Leon know yet?"

"About what?"

"Our secret."

"Oh. Yeah, the magic one. He's pretty great," Emil says.

"Hi Emil's bro!" Leon exclaims.

"Hello, Leon. I have a name. Lukas," I roll my eyes even though I know they can't see me. "Anyways, I nearly told him I have magic even though he hadn't noticed yet. He was focused on my eyes."

"Well duh! 'Cuz the people around here aren't used to seeing each others eye colors. They believe all that soulmate garbage," Emil says and I can practically feel him roll his own eyes over the phone.

"I know, I know. I need to find time to properly talk to him," I say and shake my head.

"Jeez man, do you want me to do it for you? I mean, it hardly took any work for me to end up in the janitor's supply closet alone with Leon. We've been meeting in here every day for a week now."

"What are you doing in there, exactly...?" I trail off.

"Ugh, you dirty minded freak. We're just talking," he exclaims.

"Whatever. Anyways, isn't Leon missing class?"

"My teacher is really chill. I told her I was having an emergency and needed to be excused from her class period today," Leon explains.

"I didn't get to ask Mathias," I remark. "I should have."

"Anyways, get over here. You'll need to convince Mathias to come with us on Monday, but for now just Leon will have to do. We have urgent business to attend to," Emil reminds me.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm hanging up to rescue you now. Bye."

"We don't need rescuing!" Emil whines. I hang up before he can throw a hissy fit.

I step out of the bathroom. Sure, I teleported away momentarily while Mathias left a while ago, but I came back straight after. It's time to see what chaos the decision of leaving my younger brother alone with his soulmate has caused.
