Avery
"Olivia, c'mon!" I yell throughout the house. "We're going to be late!"
I peered down at my silver watch hugging my wrist. It was 8:45 in the morning. Waaaay too early to be up, and absolutely waaay to early to function. I don't understand why schools have to be so early. Like why can't it start at noon? Life would be so much better.
My five year old little angel came skipping down the stairs. She wore her purple princess nightgown that reached below her knees, and her long brown hair was frizzy and covering her face.
"Sweetie". I laugh, walking over towards her.
I brushed her hair out of her face, and put it up into a tight ponytail on the top of her head. From there, you could now see her gorgeous brown eyes, glistening from the light.
"How many times do I have to tell you, to put your hair up before you go to bed?" I ask.
She gazed up at me, with her lips forming a smile. "Lots". She giggled.
"That right. If you did, you wouldn't look like a Sasquatch every time you wake up".
She began to laugh, at my choice of words. She always tends to do that, every time I call her a funny name. I smile at her playfulness and put my hands on her back.
"Now, go sit at the table, and I'll get you something to eat". I say, gesturing over towards the kitchen table.
She nods her little head, and climbed up onto the bar stool, the sits beside the counter.
As she waited for me, I opened up the pantry door and scanned the choices of breakfast foods.
"What would you like to eat dear?" I ask, slightly looking back at her.
"Lucky charms!" She shrieks. Her voice echoed throughout the house.
"shhh". I hush, pressing my finger against my lips, and giving her a tiny glare. "We don't want to wake Miss.Halter now, do we?"
Miss.Halter was our next door neighbour, who lives in the same condominium as us. She was a single, old lady, who pretty much hated everyone. She probably has like ten cats living in her complex. The only thing she doesn't seem to hate were cats. They were practically her spirit animal. Everything else, she hates. She hates me. She hates Olivia. She hates anyone who walks by her house. And most certainly... People in general.
"Sorry". Olivia quietly apologizes.
"It's okay".
"I want lucky charms". She says again, this time, in a much quieter tone.
I grab the box of lucky charms and poured a bit into a bowl. Adding some milk and a silver spoon, I handed it to her.
"Thank you". She smiles, and immediately starts chocking down her breakfast.
I playfully roll my eyes and walk upstairs to my room.
I was still wearing my pink fluffy housecoat, and I most defiantly did not want to go out like that. So walking over to my closet, I pulled out a sweater and a pair of jeans.
I replaced my sleepwear with my outfit, and then put my hair up into a bun.
I hated waking up this early. It's like going to school all over again. But I'm not. Instead, I'm taking my daughter to school.
I switched the light off, and walked into the hallway and into the bathroom.
Olivia has already finished her breakfast, and she was now in the bathroom brushing her teeth.
She noticed me walk into the room, by the reflection in the mirror.
"I beat you!" She cheered, with her mouth full of toothpaste.
I shake my head with a smile. "Oh no! I'll win next time". I challenge.
I too, begin to brush my teeth, along with applying a tiny bit of makeup. When Olivia had finished, I brushed her thick brown hair, and topped it into a pony tail at the top of her head.
"Okay let's go to school now, we have only five minutes to get there". I say, glancing at my watch again, which was now 8:55.
We put our coats on, along with a pair of runners, and headed outside.
Miss.Halter was outside watering her flowers. She wore that smug looking smile that she wears 24/7, and a long blue, garden dress.
I felt Olivia cling to my leg. She was always afraid of that old lady. One day when she was playing with a frisbee outside, she accidentally threw it at her window. It didn't break at all, but still, Miss.Halter came stomping outside and began yelling and cursing at her. Ever since then, we've never really liked her. She was nothing but a mean, nasty woman.
I unlocked the door to my black Mercedes Benz and opened the door for Liv. I call her Liv or either Livy, short for Olivia.
She gets in and climbs into her black car seat. I shut the door behind her, and get in myself.
We drove to the school, only a minute before class started, and we fortunately weren't late.
I quickly grabbed her hand and rushed her into the kindergarten class.
Exchanging a hug and a gentle kiss, we said our goodbyes, and then left.
