Avery
When everyone had finished eating, Alexis insisted we'd all have some champagne. I immediately declined her offer, which made her more annoyed than she already was. The whole evening was a mess. I had a headache from her constant yapping, that I couldn't even think straight. I even found a hair in my mashed potatoes, which almost made me gag.
The kids were upstairs playing hide and go seek, and Alexis had to go to the bathroom.
As soon as she was out of the room, I immediately turned to Cameron.
"I hate you sooo much!" I yell-whispered through gritted teeth, making sure Alexis wouldn't hear me through the thin walls of the house.
Cameron looked at me with raised eyebrows. "I'm sorry! I didn't know she was going to force you to eat dinner with us".
I placed my hands on my temples and rubbed them in a circular motion. I wanted to go home!
"Listen". Cameron says. I lifted my head and looked at him.
He reached into his pant pockets, and pulled out his wallet. Scrambling through it, he pulled out a twenty dollar bill and placed it on the table in front of me.
"Here's twenty dollars. I'm sorry tonight went horrible".
I picked up the thin paper money, letting it dangle between my fingers. "Money isn't going to fix my headache. Nor is it going to get rid of the taste of shampoo in my mouth!" I say.
I threw the money back at him, and he quickly catches it.
Cameron gives me a look of confusion. "What are you talking about?" He asks. "Shampoo?"
"I found a piece of her weave in my potatoes!" I cry. "And let me tell you, she uses too much shampoo!"
Cameron continues to stare at me.
"You're crazy..." I hear him mumble.
"I'm crazy?!" I protest. "You're the one who-"
"Stop bringing me into the situation". Cameron wines. "That's all you ever do".
"Excuse me?" I say. "I'm telling the truth! All you do is make up dumb excuses".
"Avery enough-"
"What's going on in here?" Alexis' voice interrupts. I didn't realize we were yelling until this point.
"Sorry". Cameron apologizes to Alexis.
I sit back in the chair, folding my arms across my chest.
"We just had a misunderstanding". His voice trails off.
I roll my eyes at the lies he was telling her.
Alexis' eyes travel back and forth between Cameron and I. She looked suspicious.
"I should go". I say, standing up from the chair and adjusting my hair.
"Really? I thought that maybe we could all have a drink and you know, chat".
"We have nothing to chat about". I say, gathering my stuff and slinging my purse over my shoulder. "You talked the whole fucking night, and I already have a headache from it! I don't understand how Cameron can even live with you".
By now I was pissed. I didn't care what slipped out of my mouth. I didn't care what she thought of me. I didn't care if she hated me. I just want to get the hell out of here.
I glanced at Alexis who just stood there astonished. Cameron did too, except he looked like he wanted to punch me.
"Thank you for dinner. And Alexis, may I just say that your weave tastes wonderful". My sassy remark made Cameron's eyes twitch.
Alexis remained silent, as she watched me walk away.
I walked down the narrow hallway, trying to find my way back to the front entrance. It was nearly impossible, considering that their house was practically a mansion, and there was new hallways at every corner.
"Avery!" I hear Cameron's voice boom.
The sound of footsteps followed behind me, and I felt his hand aggressively grab my shoulder.
He spun me around, so that I was now facing him. His face was fuming red, and he looked like he was going to explode.
"What?!" I snap.
"What is wrong with you?!"
"I have a headache okay?! I just came here to drop off my kid, and then once I was about to leave, you drag me into your house, and introduce me to that thing of yours, and then she made me stay for supper, and eat chicken and potatoes, when I don't even like potatoes, especially when theres hair strands in it! And then all
She does is yap, yap, yap, yap, yap, and she doesn't know when to shut up! Okay?! I just want to go home and sleep".I finished off my long speech by slipping my shoes on and opening the front door.
As I stepped outside, Cameron continued to follow me.
"Stop following me!" I ordered, spinning around and yelling in his face.
Cameron backed away only a few steps.
"You know what?" I ask. "I'm just going to grab my kid and go".
I push past him to get into the house, but he stops me.
"They're already sleeping". He quietly says.
I roll my eyes. "I don't care. I'll just scoop her up and take her back home then".
As I nudged him again, Cameron grabbed me by the shoulders, and spun me around. Pushing me against the wall, he leaned in and crashed his lips against mine.
