Avery
Friday slowly came by and since then, Cameron and I haven't talked at all.
Unlike Olivia, she wouldn't shut up about her and Alex's friendship. I mean, it's cute how she's making a good friends. It's just that, her friend turns out to be the son of my ex boyfriend.
"Mommy mommy!" Olivia called, running out of the school, and up to me.
She had a huge smile plastered on her face, and her cheeks beamed in pink.
"Alex was wondering if I could sleepover this weekend".
The sound of his name drained me into deep thoughts. I had a feeling Cameron was all behind this, making his kid be best friends with mine, in order to grow closer to me.
"Did he?" I asked, grabbing her hand and leading her to the car.
"Yeah. He says that he had a good time last weekend, and he wants me over again!" She sounded very happy talking about him. I was starting to wonder if she liked him...
"Oh that's cool. Is his parents okay with it?" I ask.
As we get into the vehicle, Olivia reached into her backpack and pulled out a slip of paper.
She handed it me. "Alex said that his dad wants to talk to you, to see if it's okay".
"Of course he does..." I quietly mumbled.
"What?" Olivia asks, looking at me.
"Nothing". I chip in.
I grab the piece of paper and took a look at it. In blue pen was written a phone number, followed by Cameron's initials written beside it.
I thought it was kind of cheesy that he sent me his number... He couldn't of just called me himself?
I tucked the slip into my purse and turned the ignition of the vehicle on.
The car started up, and I drove back home.
When we got inside, Olivia went straight to her room. I set my car keys and purse on the kitchen island, and slipped my shoes off.
I remembered about the slip of paper in my purse with Cameron's name on it. I debated wether or not I should call it.
Without hesitation, I grabbed the slip, and brought it over to the couch.
I sat down cross-legged, and pulled my phone out of my pocket.
Opening up my phone app, I dialled in the number and pressed call.
On the second ring, someone picked up.
"Hello?" A female voice answered. A ball of anxiety formed in the pit of my stomach.
"Um- hi". I replied. "Um- is Cameron there?" I asked, biting my lip and tapping my fingers against the armrest of the couch.
"Yes, he's just in the bathroom right now, who is this?" She was getting suspicious, and I didn't like it. She was probably wondering why another female was calling him.
I was going to say that it's none like your business, but I decided to be nice.
"I'm a friend of his, and I just want to ask him something for a quick second".
"What's your name?" Her snobby voice asked.
I decided to listen to my conscience, and let my rude side take over.
"That is none of your business, now give the phone to Cameron".
I heard her sigh through the other line, followed by shuffling.
"Cameron". I heard her faint voice call. "Someone's on the phone for you". Her voice sounded like Gretchen Weiner's from Mean Girls. It sounded annoying and high pitched, making me cringe.
More shuffling was made, and finally Cameron's husky voice was heard. "Hello?" He asks.
"Hi". I reply.
"Avery?"
"Yes. I was told to call you?"
"Oh yeah. I'm guessing you got the message?" He asked. Even though I couldn't see him, I could tell he was wearing a cocky grin.
"Yeah... Olivia told me to call you, because Alex had told her she could sleep over this weekend. And I just wanted to make sure that it was okay".
"You're letting 'your' child sleep over at 'my' house?"
"You sound peculiar..." I inform.
"Oh sorry. It's just that, I didn't know if you would've approved. Because.... you're pissed at me". He says.
"I am, but it is nice once in a while to have a break from your kid".
"Well then, c'mon over. I don't mind having her in the house. She's quiet, so she won't bug me. And plus, she keeps Alex busy".
I laughed as he said that. Olivia? Quiet? That's a joke right? She's probably the loudest, most obnoxious kid out there. She probably got it from him anyways. Yet, I love her for it.
"Okay. Thanks Cameron". I smile, and I with that, I hung up.
I got off of the couch, and jogged up the carpeted staircase.
Quietly walking through the hallway, I went to Olivia's room and peeked through the crack of the door.
She sat in her bedroom having a tea party with her stuffies. I smiled as she picked up one of her big bears and placed it on a chair. Placing a napkin ok it's lap, and then sitting across from it.
I lifted my fist and gently knocked on the door.
Her head snapped my direction, and her hair flung over her shoulder. "Yes?" She asked.
I opened the door wider and stepped into her room. "Pack your bags". I said.
A wide smile spread across her face, stretching from ear to ear.
"You're going to Alex's".
