I was slowly dozing from the distant sound of the tv when my phone dings. I knew it was Jess so I get myself ready pushing myself lazily off the couch. I find a pair of black ripped jeans and an iron maiden muscle shirt. I slowly smiled when I remembered that this was the same shirt Michael had gotten me when we went to their concert. Remembering that Jess was waiting for me I quickly changed and slipped on my dirty converse.
I head downstairs out the door and see Jess' car in my driveway. As I head over I see a guy in the backseat, Probably Calum I thought.
"Hey Casey" I was greeted with a warm smile as I got in from Jess.
"Hey Jess" I said as I buckled my seatbelt "What's up Calum?" I smiled as I turned around to see him. He gave a little wave and a small smile, I knew he would only talk to Jess so I just turned back. "So where are we going?" I said as Jess starts pulling out of the driveway.
"Well Calum suggested earlier that we should go either bowling or kart racing, what do you want to do?"
"Kart racing seems fun" I said. As she drove, she turned on her car radio and opened the windows.
All we do is drive
All we do is think about the feelings that we hide
All we do is sit in silence waiting for a sign
Sick and full of pride
All we do is drive
The three of us screamed the lyrics to the song out the window looking like crazy maniacs. This song became our anthem ever since all three of us first got into her car together. Jess was one of the popular kids in school, but she wasn't those cake faced cheer girls or the asshole drugged jocks, she was the punk rock kid who stood up for what was right and didn't matter what trouble had for her trying to do so. She was also ridiculed for doing so but she didn't give two fucks about it. That's how she met Calum.
He was a shy kid, didn't talk much always had his head down at the ground. One day Jess and I were heading off campus when we saw him getting beat up by some druggies, I tried to pull her away and just ignored what happened but she obviously ignored me and helped him. The guys ended up with their own share of broken noses. We got Calum to a hospital and soon after he was released, so we laid him in the back of her car and this song came on and I guess we just stuck with it. She took care of him for a while until he ensured her that he was ok. and this song came on and I guess we just stuck with it. Ever since Calum hasn't left her side, he helped him come out of his shell little by little. He still doesn't talk to me though because I was an ass, but occasionally we'll have really short conversations about meaningless things.
We enter the building and quickly sign some waivers and pay. Calum and I head outside and wait for our group to be called up. "So how ya been Calum?" I ask hopefully getting some words out of him.
"I'm all right, you?"
"Things could be worse." I chuckled remembering the while Michael situation.
