Kat woke up the next morning to a wake up call sent by Martha. She quickly got up, pulling her hair up into a messy bun and just putting on some light makeup since there would be a team at the shoot to get her fully ready.
Martha was in a car waiting for her at the front of the hotel, and she was all business as usual.
"Do everything they tell you in the best way possible. Be friendly with the other models, but do not act like you're their equal. They've been doing this a lot longer than you," she said as Kat entered the car.
Kat sighed, not really wanting to hear another one of Martha's spiels. She knew what she needed to do and didn't like it when Martha treated her like a child.
"Are you even listening, Kat?" Martha asks.
"Yes, but I'm really nervous and just want to relax on the way there. I know what I need to do," Kat replies, grabbing her phone and her headphones out of her bag.
She placed the earbuds in, and turned on the Blank Cassette album that she'd downloaded after the concert the other day. She turned it up loud, trying to drown out her worrying. Guitar chords and Noel's voice filled her ears, and she smiled to herself.
The driver turned into the busy L.A. traffic and Kat knew that it'd take them a while to get to the Pink building.
Great, more time to worry, Kat thinks to herself.
Kat scrolls through Instagram for a couple minutes, liking some of her friend's pictures and reading through some of the comments on her own. She quickly got bored of this, and switched to Twitter for a couple minutes. She answered a couple of fan's tweets, and favorited a few others. Knowing that an act as small as that could make someone's day always made Kat smile, and she tried to do little things like that for people as much as she could.
She decided to look through her texts next, scrolling through a bunch of pointless ones from people who she had no idea who they were or how they got her number. She deleted those, then saw a text that immediately put a smile on her face.
Alex: Good luck at your shoot. Go kick some butt!
Kat: Thanks bud! Love you
Alex texted Kat again telling her to let him know how it goes afterwards, and as Kat was responding another text appeared.
Noel Casey: good luck at your model gig thing. if you start to worry just let your inner rock star come out ;)
Kat grinned, her earlier nervousness gone, replaced by a feeling she couldn't quite put a name to. All she knew was that Noel had thought of her and made it a point to wish her luck, and that made her feel great.
"Kat, we're here. Put that phone away and let's go," Martha said, pulling Kat out of her thoughts and back into reality. Kat sent some quick replies to Noel and Alex, then slid her phone into her pocket and got out of the car, ready for whatever was about to happen.
