I shove my phone back in my pocket as Toby tells me they're done changing.
They look normal, at least.
I use some amazing makeup skills to change Jeff to a slightly more humane form.
He still doesn't blink, but I used a trick to make his eyes seem narrower.
He looks a lot better.
He's got a normal skin tone at least.
"You guys ready?" I ask, unsure if I'm ready.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Toby answers.
"I guess so." Jeff replies.
I'm not sure if I'm ready.
That's the problem.
They hide their weapons and bloody clothes under my bed.
My mom rarely watches the news, so I hope she hasn't seen the latest stories...
I walk to the door, take a deep breath, and open the door.
When we walk into the living room, my mother immediately walks over.
"So, these are your friends, (y/n)?" she asks.
"Yeah." I answer simply.
"Why are you so interested in meeting my friends anyway?" I question.
"I heard talk of murderers in your room, and I also saw the news this morning. That Jeff kid is a murderer? Who knew." she replies.
Fuck!
She knows about Jeff, so she thinks Toby is dead.
At least, I hope so.
We're using their real names, so...
I look back at Jeff, who gives me an angry look.
I'm nervous.
There's no turning back at this point.
If she finds out, we'll have to go to prison.
Toby and Jeff in the electric chair and me just sitting there, wasting away, or we could...
Why am I even thinking of that?!?!
We can't!
Am I going crazy?!?!
Of course not, I'm just thinking of the worst-case scenario.
Anxiety.
That's all it is.
"So, would you boys like something to eat? I'll be leaving soon, but I have enough time to make something." my mom asks.
Jeff and Toby shake their heads.
I ask, "Where are you going? Aren't you worried someone will hurt me, or try to kill me like Jeff? I know dad's at work, so he has an excuse. What about you? I know you don't have work today, we're fine on food and drinks, and you just paid the bills yesterday, so what is it?"
Why am I acting like this?
"What right to YOU have in MY business?!?! If you want to be like that, go to your friends' houses! Go on ahead! Leave!" she yells.
By the way she's acting, I know she's serious, but Jeff's home is being searched and Toby can't go back to his house, so what am I to do?
We all walk back to my room.
I wipe down Jeff's face.
"We need to change again..." Toby states.
"Go ahead, I don't care anymore." I respond.
Jeff shrugs his shoulders and begins undressing.
"Jeff! She's a lady!" Toby shouts softly.
"So? She doesn't care." Jeff says.
"Still!"
"Little too modest are we? Or do you just don't want her to see that you're not wearing underwear?" Jeff smirks.
I can feel the heat rise to my face and realize Toby is blushing, too, signaling that it's true, which makes me blush even more.
"Why can't you just shut your mouth for once?!?! (y/n), I'm sorry he's being such a dickhead." Toby says.
"He's right, though. I don't even care anymore." I respond, still blushing.
"Oh (y/n), what's wrong?" he asks.
"Nothing." I answer.
"(y/n)..."
"Alright! Fine! It's my mother. I think she's heading out to get drunk again and get her drugs..."
"Now that wasn't so hard, was it?" Jeff jumps in, mocking what I had said that one day at school.
"I just never wanted to burden you with my problems considering yours were so much worse." I state.
"Even if you had told us before this all happened, it wouldn't be a burden. We're friends. We help each other through life." Toby says.
"I feel touched! Thanks guys. Now Toby, get dressed." I laugh.
"Okay."
I hide my face between my knees so I don't see, but I do catch glimpses every once in a while without trying.
Sometimes I just can't help it, though!
Two boys are changing in front of me!
I know I said I don't care, and I don't, but still!
Luckily I don't see Toby's... well, you know.
That would've been... weird to put it in simple terms.
When they're both done, I get some snacks from the fridge, while getting yelled at by my mom for not leaving yet.
I put the snacks and a few water bottles in a bag and Toby, Jeff, and I leave to go wherever life takes us today.
We go to the woods, since it's almost our only option.
"So, Jeff, do you want to get our rooms at the mansion?" Toby asks suddenly, breaking the silence that was created.
"I guess. I really don't care." is Jeff's simple answer.
"Well, you have to lead us there, mister 'I'm so cool'. I don't know the way." Toby says.
"Fine then. Slender actually showed me where the mansion is before I ran into (y/n)'s house. I guess he likes me more!"
"Jeff, don't be silly. I ran to (y/n)'s house because I didn't want her to worry about me."
"Whatever you say. Slender still likes me more."
"If I may interrupt your little quarrel, who is this Slender guy?" I ask.
"Our boss. He is the Slenderman." Jeff answers.
The Slenderman?
I've heard of him before, but only on online forums.
"Shall we go then? We still need to meet the supposed others." he asks.
You both nod.
He leads us down a dark, narrow path.
Going down the path, we are silent.
Nobody makes a sound.
It's as if we're scared something is out there, but they're murderers, so what do they have to worry about?
It's me who has to worry.
The path ends at a large run-down mansion.
The paint is chipping and the entire building has ivy wrapping around it.
We approach the door and Jeff asks, "Are you ready to meet others like us?"
