I stepped up on the block and pushed my left foot into the stirrup. Then, i pushed down and brought my right leg&foot over Cowboys back and down on the saddle then i slipped my right foot into the stirrup. I started to walk around the arena due to my teachers commands. "Good Rowin Good! Start posting," She commanded. I did as told and posted. If you don't know what posting is...its what a jockey does on the horse when they race. You go up and down while the horse is trotting or galloping or whatever. If you are a beginner your legs will burn but you get used to it.
She finally told me to do a sitting trot and slowly pull the reins to halt Cowboy. I sat and pulled Cowboy's reins. He stopped. "Good Rowin! You did great! And since you did great you get 5 minutes of cantering for your first time ever," my teacher smiled. I smiled back but inside i was yelling,"Help!"
She walked over to a corner of the arena and grabbed a long rope. We call it "a lunchline" at our hose back place. She came back over to Cowboy and me and attached the end of the lunchline to cowboys bridle and led him over to a clear area. "Okay Rowin. Since it's your first time you can hold under the saddle and grip the reins super tight. Now remember legs tight especially at your knees. Oh and don't post just sit. We are going to start at trotting then i want you to kick and he will go into a canter. Ready?"
"Umm..."
"Okay good lets go," She interrupted me. Ughhh Rude:) I grabbed under the saddle and clenched the reins. She whistled and Cowboy went into a trot. "Ok now kick," she commanded. I kicked Cowboy's stomach and he started a canter. Wow! This is super bouncy! Ummm wow! Almost fell off. Okay Rowin concentrate. Cowboy bounced all over the place. Here, there, here, there. She said i'd be cantering for ONLY 5 minutes but it felt more than that.
We finally stopped and i started gasping for air. It was so hot!
"You did a great job Rowin!" My teacher smiled. I smiled back and walked Cowboy to the center to dismount. We reached it and i took my right foot out of the stirrup. Then i slid smoothly off his back
