I ran outside with Luke by my side.  We ran all the way to the barn to start practicng. He grabbed Diamond and i went straight to Aslen.  He was in the corner just standing there with his eyes closed.  "ASLEN!!! Wakey wakey," I whispered. I opened the stable door and he reluctantly walked out. I held his mane and tugged it towards the exit of the barn. Luke had two saddles by his feet and he handed me one as i walked up to him.  "You'll need this for training," he said. I grabbed the saddle and threw it over Aslen's back then latched it. "What about the bridles?" I asked.  "Oh right!" Luke exclaimed then ran off towards the tack room leaving Diamond behind. Minutes later he came back with two bridles. He handed me one and quickly latched his on Diamond. I did the same.

Finally ,when we were both ready, I mounted Aslen and Luke started me off with the basics.  "First of all you must trust the horse and the horse must trust you. I think that's already accomplished. Second of all, when you racing you have to lean forward, scrunch up your knees a bit, and post," Luke got on Diamond and showed the position. "But Aslen goes really fast when i lean forward. So why should i do that when im racing?" I asked.  Luke looked at me like i was stupid, " Exactly. It's a race that's why you have to lean forward...so that Aslen goes faster."

"Oh yea. Right. I was just kidding," I said.  "Mmmm Hmmm," Luke murmered. " Now you try to get in the position," he said. I did as told and bent forward and scrunched up my knees. Aslen took off around the field and I started posting. We went around and around. Luke started to laugh so i stopped and starred, "What's so funny?" He shook his head and quit laughing, "I'm just happy. You're doing great. Let's cover some more."  We spent the rest of the day practicing what i needed to know. At one point Mr.Sim came out to help me, too. I finally got off Aslen and un-tacked him in the barn. "That was fun.But i know my muscles will be aching by tomorrow," I said. Luke laughed and pointed out, "Yes ,but you'll get used to it. Come down tomorrow and we'll keep practicing what you learned today." I nodded and closed Aslen's stall door.

"I better go. It's getting late. Thanks for teaching me. I have a feeling we are going to win this," I said as i waved and walked out the barn door and torwards home.
