By the next Friday, I was begging for the school day to go faster. It was like everything all week was going in slow motion and today it was even worse. I just wanted to get to Amber's house and get ready for the formal. I look back at the clock in the cafeteria and it was less than a minute from the last time I checked.
At least I'm not alone. I can tell that everyone at my table is thinking the same thing as me. All week the topic has been dates, who's got one, who still needs one, it just wouldn't stop. Apparently Noel's going with Collin Anderson, the hockey star of the school. Rachel and Jess are going stag. I think Rachel's mom would kill her if she even brought up dating and Jess didn't want her to feel left out.
Then there's the odd relationship between Louis and Amber. Everyone knows that they like each other but neither of them will admit it. They drive each other crazy but won't do anything about it. It's really a shame. Due to this, Amber's going with Jack, this sweet guy that was in the play, and Louis with Mary, little church girl. I could never see them together and I still can't but it seems to make him happy.
After all of the tension of lunch, I couldn't wait to get to math. Today we had to do partner work, so much fun. I normally get stuck with someone who never does any work or talks the entire time. Please let it be different this time, Please!
I was plesantly suprised to get a good partner for once. I got pared up with Nicolette, extremely athletic and very tomboy-ish, her name doesn't fit her at all. She's at least three inches taller than me with long wavy blonde hair. I wonder what it would look like straightened....
"Hi, you're Nicolette right?"
"Yeah, but please call my Nicky. I hate Nicolette."
"Works for me. We're doing Chapter 4 right? I can't keep the chapters straight." And with that, we got to work on a packet big enough to be a book. I honestly can't believe we finished it with time to spare. "Are you going to the dance tonight?"
"Yeah, but I'm not wearing a dress, I can't stand them."
"They can be pretty annoying. Do you have a date?"
"No. I would ask you the same but the whole school knows your going with Chase Roberts." Why does everyone call him by his first and last name? While I'm still lost in thought, a boy walks over to us from the other side of the room.
"Hey Nicky, Macintosh." Oh, he's in my gym, I'm pretty sure his name is Mark. Yeah that's him. He and Shawn always call me by my last name, or in Shawn's case, my first and last name.
"Hey, Mark. What's up?" Oh yeah, there's a conversation going on around me.
"Do you have a date to the formal? I know it's last minute and all but I was kinda hoping..." His rambling was cut off by a very cheerful Nicky.
"No, not yet."
"Want to go with me?" I swear she was going to explode from happiness. It was obvious that she liked him, mainly because it wasn't even a second after he asked that she replied.
"Yes." As that word escaped her lips, the bell rang. Finally, time to go get ready.
