I wiped the tears from her face and she leaned back in and kissed me again. We sat back in our chairs as the announcer welcomed everyone to the game. We watched as both the Dodger’s and the Rays took the field and started warming up. Since we were at the Dodgers stadium the Rays batted first. The Rays were last in the league so I figured this would be an easy win for the Dodgers. As I turns out the Rays were just in a slump and they put up a pretty good fight.
The Dodgers pitcher was able to strike the first three batters out and then it was to the dugout to get ready for their turn on offense. The first batter had a line drive out to left field for a base hit. The next batter went down swinging after fouling a few pitches back. The next few batters hit singles and after about four batters the Dodgers had two points on the board. The next batter went down swinging and then it was back to defense.
The next few innings were short and over quickly. Neither team scored or got a hit. When sixth inning came up you could tell that the Dodgers pitcher was tiring down because the first two batters had solid line drives that resulted in the Rays scoring. Now it was Dodgers two and Rays one with no outs and a man on second. The coach for the Dodgers walked out and had a talk with the pitcher. He walked backed to the dugout and the game continued. The pitcher for the Dodgers struck the next two batters out but gave up another hit allowing the Rays to score another point before the inning ended. The Rays pitcher didn’t look tired but he gave up two singles and a homerun before he was pulled from the game. Now the Dodgers were up five to two with a comfortable lead.
Fiona’s Point of view
I had absolutely no idea what was happening in the game. All I knew was when Robert started celebrating so did I.Altogether it was a fun date though. Robert enjoyed himself and I liked that he wanted to spend it with me. Although I had doubt he wanted to spend time with me because he seemed more interested in the baseball game. Before I thought to much about it I remembered that the only reason we were here was because I changed the date from the movies to here.
After we had a five to two lead I stopped really paying attention to the game because I was more interested in watching the way Robert reacted to the game. (Yes I am an awkward individual leave me alone.) I watched as he leaned forward in his seat when the Dodgers players hit the ball. I also watched how he slumped into his chair when one of them got stuck out.
After the eighth inning I asked Rob if he wanted to leave because the game was practically over. He said that he had no problem leaving because his ride backed out and we were going to have to walk.
As we were leaving I stopped by the IT office and I told my dad that I watched most of the game with Robert and that I had really enjoyed myself.
“That’s good sweetie but I have to get back to work” he said without looking up.
Robert slid his fingers in-between mine without me knowing it and we were suddenly holding hands. We started walking home when he asked if I wanted to stop somewhere and get something to eat. I told him that it sounded good and we left for milkshakes. We walked for about ten or fifteen minutes before finding a Chick-fil-A. We went in and Robert ordered us some chicken some of their waffle fry’s and last but not least, our milkshakes.
He paid for the food and we went and sat down at a booth set for two. Once the food was ready Robert went and got the food and we started to eat. Halfway through eating Robert stopped eating and pulled his phone out. I don’t know what was on his phone but whatever it was wasn’t good because he turned ghostly white.
“What’s the matter Rob” I asked softly reaching over to hold his hand.
“My older sister just killed herself” Robert croaked. “I never got to know her. She was never really a part of my life but she was still my sister.”
“I’m so sorry” I managed to mumble. “I hope you know I’m here for you though” I quickly said. “I know it isn’t much but after all that you have done for me I want to help you through this.”
“Thanks” he said. “But right now I kind of want to get home.”
I let him finish walking me home before he said he was sorry for not saying much on the way home. He said he hasn’t had to deal with anything like this in a long time and he just needed some time to think. I told him if he ever wanted to talk about it that I would help him through it. He thanked me, gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and then left for home. I walked inside and pulled my phone out.
“Thanks for an amazing date” I sent to him. “I hope everything is ok. I love you.”
A few minutes later I got back “You make everything better but right now I need to be alone. I love you too.”
That was the last thing I got until he called me an hour later.
“I can’t do it” I heard him say as he started to break down.
“I am on my way” I told him as I left my house. “I will be there in about five minutes.”
