Fiona's Point of view
As I arrived I saw that Robert was on the steps leading to his house. I quickly ran up because I could see that he was seconds away from tears again.
“Hi” I said as I walked up.
“You shouldn’t have come” Robert responded.
“Why not,” I asked as I sat down next to him.
“Because you don’t need to see me like this” I heard him say.
“What do you mean” I asked quietly.
“All I’m saying is you have enough things in your life that you have to deal with. You don’t need to be adding any of my drama to it.”
The tone in Roberts voice was getting pretty harsh but I knew he was hurt and that he wasn’t trying to be rude. Before I could say anything else he broke down and started crying again. As he was crying I heard him mumble “Why are you even here.”
“Honestly” I told him. “I am here because you were there for me when I needed it and I’m not one to not return the favor.”
Things were quiet besides the occasional sniffle from where he was trying to not cry. I could tell that he wasn’t comfortable so I decided to ask why. After figuring out how to not sound like a complete douche I finally asked “You seem a little uneasy is everything okay?”
“This is something I have never had” Robert said softly. “I have never had somebody care. My parents never listen to what I have to say and my friends never care. I don’t know how to respond to this.”
“Well if it makes you feel any better I don’t really have it either” I told him.
“What do you mean” Robert asked.
“You were the first person to ever ask me what was wrong and stay and listen to what I had to say. That’s why I was so harsh on you when you asked me what was wrong. I thought you were going to turn out to be like everyone else and ask but not listen. I was surprised when you said you wanted to help. Like you said nobody has ever listened to what I said or ever tried to help.”
“That’s a shame” Robert finally said.
“What” I asked confused.
Robert started chuckling and then I finally saw what I came to see. I saw the smile that could light up an entire city.
Robert’s Point of view
Oh god. She is coming over. Why is she coming over? I don’t want her to see me like this. God she is going to think that I’m a complete pushover. By this time I was more furious that I couldn’t stop crying then I was upset that my sister had killed herself. Why does everything have to happen to me? I kept asking out loud. Not that anyone could hear me. Even if they did hear me it isn’t like they would come ask what was going on or anything. “Heartless bastards.” I muttered.
Figuring that Fiona didn’t know my address I went outside and sat down on my steps. After about five minutes of sitting I could see her bright pink Nike’s. As soon as I saw that she was there my stomach started churning and I started to break down again.
After she sat down I can’t remember anything until I told her that nobody cared. After I told her that she told me she was in the same boat. After hearing that I started chuckling because I thought it was a shame. How could someone so beautiful and smart be ignored for this long? I thought to myself. Not realizing that I said that’s a shame out loud Fiona asked all confused about what I was talking about. I couldn’t find a way to tell her so I started chuckling.
At last I finally found the words to say.
“I said it’s a shame” I told her. “If people got to know the real you then they would know how awesome you are and what they have been missing.”
“Oh” she said as she started to sit up. “I wasn’t expecting that” she said as she pushed me softly.
“Well it’s true” I told her. “You are one of the most amazing people I have ever met and I’m so glad that I found the courage to start talking to you.”
“Awe” I heard her fumble out. “You’re so sweet.”
“What” I choked up. “I’m not being sweet” I said bluntly. “Everything I just told you was the truth.”
“That’s why it’s so sweet” she piped up.
I decided to let it go and then I asked her if she wanted to come inside and get something to drink or eat. She said she would love to but it was getting late and that she wanted to get home before her mother. I told her I understood and then she leaned in and gave me a kiss.
Once she left I went back inside and went to my room where I pulled my phone out and shot her a text. “Thanks for everything” was all the text said.
After sending the text I felt grungy and decided to go take a shower. When I got out of the shower I saw that my phone was blinking and I figured it could be the only person that still talks to me. Fiona. The text read
“Why are you thanking me? You are the one who has bent over backwards for me and you didn’t even know me. You have brought so much joy to me and I’m so happy that you are a part of my life now. I love you Robert.”
I sent her the only thing I could think of. “Beautiful you have left me beyond speechless and all I want to do is be with you. I love you too kitten.”
