“Hey….what are you doing here?” I was tense.
“I came to see you.” Taylor said smiling.
“I’ll just leave you two alone to catch up.” Matty said quickly exiting the room. I stood there still in shock for a couple minutes then snapped myself out of it and leaned against the dresser opposite of my bed.
“I can’t believe you’re here.” I said.
“Yeah I wanted to come see you since the day you left and I just finally convinced myself to come. So how have you been?” she asked. It was definitely awkward and you could sense the tension, it was clear as day.
“I’ve been good, what about you?” I tapped my fingers on the dresser, this was just too weird.
“Same, it’s really nice to see you. I missed you.”
“Yeah, so why did you decide to come out now?” I asked.
“Well I wanted to as soon as you left but I was still a little mad at you then last month I thought about coming but I thought you might’ve met a new girl and forgot about me.” She chuckled awkwardly. “So did you meet a girl?”
“No girl…” I laughed nervously. I cannot tell her right off the back that I’m gay. I mean I dated her but I never felt anything near to what I felt when I met Vic. I was confused back then and small town you just did what was normal you never questioned it. I never questioned if I was gay because it was normal to date a girl so that’s what I did but when I came here it was like a clean slate no one knew me, I didn’t have to be what everyone thought I was, I could just find myself and be myself and I’m pretty sure I found who I am. She immediately had this big grin on her face after I said that. “It’s kind of late do you think we could talk tomorrow, I have class in the morning so it would have to be later in the day.”
“Yeah, that’s fine.” She got up off the bed.
“So where are you staying?” I asked.
“I thought that maybe I could stay with you.”
“Uh.. yeah, sure. Just give me a second.” I went over and opened the door, peeking to see where Matty was. He was standing by the stairwell door. I walked out the door closing it behind me and going over to Matty.
“Alright so she doesn’t have anywhere to stay so she’s gonna stay here with us, okay?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He began walking back to the room and I followed beside him. “So did you tell her you’re gay?”
“No.”
“So you’re just gonna lie to her? Remember how well that worked out the first time? I ended up walking in on you and Vic putting back on your clothes after you had sex. Lying doesn’t work well for you.” He stopped as we got at the door and looked at me, wanting me to do the right thing but I felt like I was doing the right thing for now.
“I’m not lying, I’m just delaying the truth.” I opened the door and walked in while Matty followed behind me.
“Okay so you’re gonna sleep in my bed and I’ll sleep on the floor.” I went over to the closet and grabbed a couple blankets.
“I don’t want to take your bed from you, I’ll feel guilty.” She had this sad look on her face.
“Really, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” I gave her a reassuring look.
“Well how about we both sleep in the bed, like old times.” She smiled. I looked back at Matty to see if he heard and of course he did. He looked at me with his eyes wide and had this smirk on his face that said I told you so. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Taylor.
