We just entered Michigan, saying Vic and I were tried was definitely an understatement. We were laughing at the most random things and Vic wasn’t making any sense. This has been the most amazing road trip of my life. I wasn’t even worried about having to tell my family about me being gay because Vic was keeping my mind off it. Once we got to my parents’ house I started to get nervous. We were sitting in the car, quiet. I was gripping the steering wheel and biting the inside of my cheek. This was real, I’m actually sitting outside my parents’ house with my boyfriend getting ready to tell them that I’m gay and I can’t turn back now.

“Oh my god…” I sighed putting me head down on the steering wheel.

“It’s going to be alright.” Vic put his hand on my leg.

“Yeah, I hope. Let’s just go before I change my mind.” I lifted my head up then took the keys out of the ignition.

“Hey.” Vic grabbed my hand. “Whatever happens just know that I love you.”

Melting my hearts with those sweet words of his, I definitely needed to hear that. I couldn’t help but get little butterflies in my stomach when he said that, he was just being so supportive and that’s what I need right now. If my family doesn’t support me at least I’ll have him.

“I love you too.” I smiled. We got out the car and once we stepped foot on the front porch I hesitated to knock. Taking a deep breath I slowly knocked on the door, praying no one was home that way I could leave the keys and we could go back to a hotel. I knew that wouldn’t happen so I don’t know why I was so surprised when my mom came and opened the door with a big smile on her face.

“You’re back so soon. I thought it would take you at least a day to pack all your stuff up.” She said.

“Yeah, I need to talk to you about that.” I said nervously.

“And who is this?” she looked at Vic and gave him a friendly smile.

“This is Vic.” I said.

“Well you boys come in.” she moved back, opening the door wider. We walked inside to the kitchen and sat down at the table where she handed us some tea. “You both look tired.” She sat down with us at the table.

“Yeah we took turns driving all night.” I said blowing on the hot tea.

“I must say it’s nice to meet one of Kellin’s friends from school. He came home last week not saying anything about his time up there.” She said to Vic. He looked over at me and I just gave him an awkward look back then looked away.

“Yeah, well were pretty tired. So we’re gonna get some sleep then we can talk some more.” I said standing up then looking at him to stand up with me.

“Thanks for the tea Mrs. Quinn.” Vic said smiling at my mom.

“You’re welcome. The guest room is upstairs across the hall from Kellin’s room he’ll show you where it is. I’m going to start cooking dinner so when you boys get up it should be ready and your father should be home by then.” She walked away heading into the kitchen while Vic and I headed upstairs.

“This is the guest room.” I said opening it and walking in, it looked like a normal room but just no clothes in the drawers or closet.

“You didn’t tell her you decided to stay at school.” Vic said shutting the door as he walked in.

“Yeah, I think it’s just best to tell everyone at the same time.” I said.

“She thinks we’re friends.” He said with a disappointed tone in his voice.
