"Calum, you have to train. You can't just waltz in to my glade and expect not to contribute to anything," Luke was huffing at Calum, who limped up behind the blond boy, an occasional jolt of soreness shooting up from his lower body. It had been a day since he and Luke had fucked and of course, Calum was still sore.

"Okay, I can hardly fucking walk because of you. And two, I didn't 'waltz in to your glade.' In fact, I was put here against my will," Calum countered, and Luke can't help but snort at the first part, a sly smirk creeping on to his face.

"Do not," Calum slapped Luke's well-built chest and the boy laughed, hooking an arm around Calum's waist and pulling the boy closer. Calum wiggled out of his grasp, pouting out his bottom lip. It was cloudy and foggy, the air thick and damp. Yet, work still continued in the glade.

"I want you to be a runner with me," Luke prompted, staring at Calum's long legs. Even if the boy wasn't as tall as Luke was, he still had pretty great legs.

"Maybe we'll get matching scars," Calum rolled his eyes playfully, referring to the scars on Luke's chest. Luke snorted and looked around the glade.

"No, seriously, once you're... Er, not sore, I want to build up your stamina and speed."

"Like, power-training-workout sort of thing?"

"Sure, yeah, sure, let's go with that." Luke nodded with a laugh. "But for now let's go check on some of the gladers," Luke jerked his head towards the group of gladers working in The Grove, but Calum's gaze drifted to the side to where a vast majority of the other gladers were crowded - Right at the gaping entrance to the maze.

"Hey, Luke-" Calum hit Luke on the arm and pointed to the crowd of boys. "What's going on?"

Luke's eyebrows furrowed, and without replying he pivoted on his heels and turned, beginning to jog towards the crowd of whispering boys. Calum followed behind him as quickly as he could, wincing with every other step he took until he skidded to a halt at the back of the crowd. A gentle drizzle began to fall softly, matting the kiwi boy's dark, blond-streaked hair.

Calum shuffled through the crowd until he was at the front, hissing out a breath when someone stepped on his foot but turned his gaze to gaze upon what was right in the opening to the maze.

A very small golden figure.
It was a snake.
It was the Goldenhood.

Calum felt the breath get forced from his chest, nearly choking on nothing. He frantically reached up to clutch the base of his neck, and sure enough, the 'L' shaped scar was still there.

The snake was coiled up, but its hooded head was raised, piercing orange eyes raking over the clearing of boys with an unforgiving demeanor. It knew it had power of this glade, it knew the fear it instilled in the boys. It wasn't just a goddamn snake, this was a freakin' villain. Stupid snake, Calum thought. [same calum same]

Luke departed from the crowd of boys first, hushing the whispering boys by waving his hand and giving them a stern look. He took a step towards the snake, the dusty ground turning a darker shade of brown as the rain dampened it.

"What's it doing out?" Shawn joined up beside Luke, tilting his head curiously.

"It wants something," Luke murmured, his voice firm. Luke knew what he was talking about, he sounded so sure.

"Calum," Luke suddenly spoke aloud, his gaze scanning the outer area of the crowd to find the boy. "Come here. Slowly."

Calum felt frozen on the spot, but a hand from behind him shoved him forwards. Shooting daggers through his glare at the boy who had pushed him -Michael- over his shoulder, he took a cautious step forwards. The snake's tail was twitching as it cocked its scaly golden head, its beady serpentine gaze never leaving Calum.

"What should I do? It's a goddamn snake," Calum hissed to Luke, but the boy was nowhere to be seen. Blinking a few times in surprise, Shawn shrugged when Calum gave him a questioning look. Calum turned back to the snake, taking another step towards it.

It was like he couldn't keep his eyes off the brilliant robe of golden scales the snake bore. Its black forked tongue flicked out at Calum as it eyed him curiously, slithering forwards until the Goldenhood and Calum were only about a foot apart. The boys were murmuring in the crowd again, a few preparing their wooden spears in case the snake decided to strike.

Calum was kneeling down in the muddy ground now, reaching out with one hand to the snake. The Goldenhood raised its chin slightly, as if saying, Why the fuck is this fleshy thing trying to touch me?

Yet, even in the eyes of something so lethal, Calum saw honest discernment in the gaze of this small serpent, and that's when the snake began to circle Calum, its long body leaving a trail in the mud. Calum's breath hitches as he slowly turned his head to look at Shawn.

Don't move, Shawn mouthed, and Calum felt like flipping him off. Yeah, because Calum had plans to go ballroom dancing right about now.

The tension in the damp, humid air was almost palpable as the Goldenhood came back in front of Calum again, raising its head so it was only a mere inch away from touching Calum's still outstretched hand.

Calum bit his lip, not even realize that he was trembling in nervousness as the snake flicked out its tongue, which grazed Calum's palm.

The snake gave Calum almost a human-like look, a regal look of respect. The snake itself was to be admired, not feared, Calum realized as he felt himself deflate a bit. Yet, his heart still seemed to leap into his throat when he felt the smooth scales of the snake touch his hand.

The Goldenhood had pressed its forehead against Calum's palm, but not even a second after that, a blinding white flash broke in the atmosphere, followed by the crack of thunder as the bolt of lightning seemed to split open the angry, ominous dark clouds.

Right in that flash of light, the crowded boys gasped once it returned to gloominess again.

The snake was gone.

There were no tracks, nothing. No sign that the snake had been there.

Calum, trembling and obviously confused, stood up shakily, his eyes frozen open as if he had just been injected with ice cold liquid and it was now in his veins.

"Calum," A boy Calum recognized, Vinny, said suddenly, glancing at Shawn.
"Come with me; and everyone else, too, we are having a Glade Gathering."

The boys began jogging through the rain, feet splashing in puddles as they darted towards one of the larger abodes, that probably acted as a gathering place for the gladers.

Calum, however, was at the back of the crowd, goosebumps arising on his arms. He hadn't seen Michael in the crowd, either.

But what worried him more was, where was Luke?
