Fake.
There were many synonyms for this. Lying was one of them, so was surreal, unreal, false; but nothing was as blunt as the word itself.
Fake.
That's what all this was.

So Calum awoke.
He awoke to blinding white light and a cold, almost freezing silver support beneath him. He was lost, dizzy, hardly awake. He was numb from the waist down and he had this unbearable soreness in both arms, and he was unable to raise his head without wincing.
His eyes almost refused to open but somehow they did, and it all came flooding back to him.
The Glade, coming up in The Box, the massive walks of The Maze, shifting and moving every night. The cries of grievers in the night, the howls of viperwolves during the day. He remembered the snake, with a golden robe of scales and eyes as black as night. He remembered the red-haired boy, Michael, a cruel one who had abused his lover but then saved his life.
His lover. Luke.
The thoughts all came rushing back to him and his eyes flew open. He struggled to sit up, pain shooting throughout him, and it didn't take him long to realize that he was in a room with glass walls. He was hooked up to some sort of machinery outside the glass walls, but beyond the glass walls, there was a room.
It was dark, but had a bunch of machinery and blinking lights. People in white lab coats typed at computers and projector screens, some talked on little microphones in their ear, but most of them were looking at Calum.
But that was only if he looked forwards from the cold silver bed he lay on.
On either side of him were more glass rooms, each separated by a glass wall.In each glass-walled room, was another face, another person. A familiar face. To his right, was Luke. To his left was Michael, and so on. Everyone was just starting to wake up, but Calum seemed to be the most far along. He tugged fiercely at what appeared to be an IV in his arm and that's when a slab of the glass slid upwards at the front of the glass enclosure and two of the white-coated scientists hurried in.
"Calum, we're going to need you to settle down. You are safe, I promise," One doctor coaxed him but Calum whimpered, attempting to stand up. He was barefoot and wearing only saggy gray sweatpants, not even a shirt. The floor was freezing and made him curl his toes but that didn't ease his racing heartbeat.
"What the fuck?" Calum croaked out, but his voice barely came out. It only came out as a mere rasp, resembling a cough.
"Calum, hun, you're going to want to lay down. Don't try to talk, it's been almost ten years since you've last spoken or even been awake." The other doctor or scientist or whatever the hell they were told Calum.
