It had been three days since Luke had fallen into Calum's arms and sobbed, numb with pain. It had been three days since Calum last left his abode, too distraught with worry to even do anything. He wasn't allowed to see Luke, which outraged him, but he dealt with it so he avoided getting put in The Pit. [a/n: aka a mini jail cell type thing they made lmao gO WATCH THE TMR MOVIE IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY GODDAMN]

There was a small knock of the abode 'door' and in poked Shawn's head. Calum looked up from where his face was buried in his hands and looked at the brown-eyed boy.

"What do you want?"
Shawn sighed. "You can't sulk in your abode all day. You have to contribute to this Glade like everyone else."

Calum narrowed his eyes coldly. "You don't understand. Luke is-"

"Special, I know. He wouldn't shut up about you the day after the fire. Bonfire? Whatever." Shawn chuckled and walked into the abode, sitting beside Calum on the title stone ledge that acted as a bed.

Calum tugged at his own messy hair with his hands. "But I care about him. He's hurt and I can't stand seeing him like that."

Shawn sighed. "Calum, I know you think Luke is hurt, weak, frail. But he has been in this Glade for three years, and nobody knows it as well as he does. He's made friends and lost friends, he's been betrayed, he's been cheated and lied to. Hell, this whole maze is lying right to our faces!"

Calum blinked a few times in surprise. "What do you mean?" [i s2g if any of you make JB references im going to rip out my eyes]

Shawn stiffened a bit before averting his brown eyes to stare at Calum sorrowfully.

"The Maze doesn't have a way out. It's unsolvable. The only way we think we can get out is to keep fighting off the Grievers and Viperwolves, but then again, they always keep coming." Shawn sighed shakily. "We put together the clues that the Goldenhood isn't bad or evil or some shit, we think that now that it's sort of bonded with you it's on our side. It has so much more power than we know, it just doesn't show it."

Calum was quiet after this. When he touched the skin of the legendary, feared serpent, he had felt power and adrenaline rush through his veins unlike anything else. It was almost overwhelming.

"Yeah," He replied softly yet blatantly, not really knowing how to reply.
"See, look," Shawn reached up and brushed the pad of his finger over the 'L' shaped scar on the base of Calum's neck. Calum flinched away from him but the co-chief went on anyway.

"It's an 'L.' Ever thought that it might have something to do with 'Luke?' I mean, it can say other things, like Loss, Love, Leave or some other shit, but the possibilities are endless." [i snorted i literALLY CANT]

Calum thought about this for a moment. Could the snake have let him live because he was destined to be with Luke? But like Shawn had said, there's so many other L words that it could spell out, the possibilities seemed indefinite.

"Do you love Luke?" Shawn suddenly asked.
When Calum didn't answer immediately, Shawn pressed on.

"Would you rather it be you hurt and in the Infirmary right now than him?"
Calum's reply was instant. "Yes!"

"Would you say that you trust Luke?"
"With every ounce of loyalty in me."

"Would you die for him?" Shawn asked. Calum nodded frantically, his hands beginning to twitch in his lap. Where was this heading?

"If you saw him with someone else, would you be jealous?" Shawn continued, and Calum thought for a moment.
"I'm not the jealous type," Calum fidgeted. Shawn shook his head.

"That's not an answer, Calum.
Calum sighed at this. "Yeah, okay, I wouldn't be too thrilled with it."

"Now, would you kiss him again just like you did that night?" Shawn pressed, his brown eyes transfixed on Calum.

"How do you know we kissed?"
"I'm not stupid, Calum. The day after the bonfire you two took the 'day off' or whatever in your abode, the next day you had a shitload of hickeys on your neck. Not that hard to know what happened," Shawn laughed and Calum dropped his gaze, his face flushing.

"I would kiss him until my lips are numb," Calum answered at last. "His lips are like a drug and I want to get addicted."

Shawn nodded, making a humming sound before standing up and walking towards the exit of the broken-down stone structure they were in.

"Sounds like you're in love to me, Cal," Shawn chuckled. Calum was quiet. He did love Luke, holy fuck, he did. It was scary, that a simple 'hello' on the day they met had blossomed into something more. That to him was beautiful.

"Go tell him when he recovers," Shawn said, smiling a bit.

Calum hated those three words. I love you. He hadn't told it back to Luke yet and he didn't know if he could. He didn't have the audacity to do that. He was scared, just frightened that after he opens up his heart that Luke will stomp it into the dirt.
It was just fear. Fear of being hurt.

"Now, c'mon, gotta get you into running condition. You look like a Runner so you're going to train as one." Shawn nodded and gestured to a Calum to follow him.

So there it was.
Calum was in love with Luke.
He knew it with every fiber of his being.

But he couldn't find the damn words.
