"Left, babe" Niall called to you as you walked backwards through the house, trying to locate the living room. You huffed as you lifted the tree up a bit more in your hands, navigating left into the room.
"You're gonna place it down and I'll lift it till it stands, okay?" He told, and you nodded in response. You placed the tree down gently, Niall not letting go until it stood up straight. I stood back and grinned, looking at the tree that would soon be beautifully decorated.
"Good choice babe" you praised, as Niall wrapped his arm around your waist and kissed your cheek.
"Perfect tree for our 4 perfect years together" he beamed. You turned your head to place a kiss upon his lips
"Now the lights?" You asked. He nodded his head, taking your hand to lead you to the bins set out on the side of the room. You chuckled at the thought of Niall taking forever to put the lights on the tree, due to his OCD and everything having to be right
"Hold this end please, t' make sure there's no tangles" he muttered. He untangled the lights and started to spin them around the tree, slowly and making sure each light was being seen. You couldn't help but giggle at his face- his tongue sticking out in concentration while his hair lay flat across his forehead, cheeks still tinted pink from the cold air of getting your Christmas tree.
"Ah fuck" he muttered, rewinding and undoing half of what he had just spun around the tree. You sighed quietly, arms getting weak from holding it up. He gave you a unharmful glare, licking his lips.
"Wanna switch?" You asked, rocking on your feet.
"No I got this" he told, walking around the tree with the lights.
So after about an hour of complete torture for you, Niall finally realized that there was no need for you to stand there and he asked you to make dinner instead. So you were now slaving away in the kitchen while he yet has finished the lights around the tree.
Don't ask why, but for some reason it was like a tradition to eat chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese on the day you put the Christmas tree up. So dinner was done pretty quick, and just as you were pouring the macaroni and cheese into the plates you felt arms snake around your waist and Niall rest his chin on top of your head
"I'm finally done" he yelled, hugging you tightly and shaking your body back and forth
"It's about time" you chuckled
"Heyyyy" he whined, crossing his arms over his chest
"You and your OCD" you laughed
"I just want it to look perfect. I want Christmas to be perfect because I know it's your favorite time of the year" he mumbled, and you could barely hear him as he spoke it just above a whisper. You turned around, looking to see his gaze fixed on the ground. You hugged him, placing your arms around his waist and nuzzling your head into his chest
"I love seeing your eyes light up at this time of year. The lights seem to illuminate your eyes and your smile, so for some reason the lights mean a lot to me. So I want them to look perfect" he admitted, and you wanted to squeal and basically jump into the oven because that was so incredibly cute
"You're such a fucking cutie" you mumbled into his chest, pulling away after you spoke to look him in the eyes
"I love you so much" you smiled, his hand coming out to cup your cheek
"I love you even more" he gently held your cheek, leaning down to bring you into a sweet, loving kiss. The beep of the oven broke you two apart, and you slowly broke away from him to take the chicken out of the oven.
You both sat down to eat your chicken and macaroni and cheese, devouring the dinner just like the two little kids you are.
"What's your favorite time of the year?" You brought up, it had been bugging you since he knew yours was Christmas
"My birthday, no doubt" he chuckled
"Why do you say it like that?" You investigated further, watching his laugh vibrate through his baby blue shirt from his chest. The grey sweat pants he wore to complete the outfit made you want to cuddle up to him forever.
"Cause I get sex all day, all night" he grinned cheekily. You rolled your eyes, but laughed at how boyish he looked at that moment
"You perv" you joked
"Not if you like it" he replied in a sing song voice.
"Moving on" you told, watching as a crumb was left on his bottom lip, but decided to not tell him because it made him look all the more irresistible
"Let's put some ornaments up, shall we?" He stood up, taking his plate along with yours.
"On one condition" you smirked. Niall placed the dishes into the sink, stretching while turning to face you as if to tell you to go on
"We listen to Christmas music" you gambled
"Deal"
It usually took the longest for the ornaments. It seemed like there was one for every branch of the tree. And when your fiancé is in one of the worlds biggest bands, you have a big house. And when you have a big house, you get a big tree.
That's a lot of ornaments.
"This ones my favorite" you called to him. He finished placing the one he just put up and came over to you, kneeling down beside your seated position to see the ornament. It was simply just a girl on a swing with a boy behind her, the girl holding a candy cane in her hand. It was apart of the precious moments collection, the ones that were really antique
"That?" Niall questioned, placing his hand in mine to hold the ornament and turn it around
"It reminds me of us. Carefree and so in love" you grinned down at it, feeling Niall's hand on your shoulder.
"It does resemble us in a way" he softly smiled, standing up with the ornament.
"Let's put it on together" he suggested. You stood up and walked over to him, placing your hand on the strings along with his and you hug it near the top, in the front.
"Was that the last one?" You whispered, not wanting to ruin the moment
"T'ink so" he replied, going over to the light switch
"On the count of three?" He looked to me, blue eyes swarming with wonder and happiness. I grinned as a reply, and he count aloud before flicking the switch, standing up and walking towards me. My smile grew wider making my eyes crinkle at the beauty of it, Niall's arms making their way around my waist to press his hands flat against my stomach and resting his head on my shoulder
"In a way, you're like a Christmas tree" Niall told. My smile never faded as I turned my head slightly to look at him
"How?" I asked, eyebrows furrowed
"Because you're always shining bright. You always make my day, you always make me happy. You have a lot of weight on your shoulders from me, hence the ornaments, but you still shine through it. You're beautiful, as well" he finished
"What's with all the sweet comments today?" You giggled, pecking his nose with your lips
"Eh, I guess it's the season"
