Hello Everyone. As promised I got the chapter up. It has many things going on hopefully enough for you guys. You do not know how much guilt I have for not uploading. I am forever in your debt to all those who have waited for me.
HERE IS CHAPTER TWENTY THREE
****************************************
“My eyes hurt. My head hurt. The noise of people murmuring and walking filled my ears. I weakly tried to cover them but pain shot through my lungs and throat as I turned. I winced and gritted my teeth until the pain settled into an irritating throb.
I drew a deep, shaky breath before gradually opening my eyes. There were blurry shapes and spots clouding my vision and I rubbed my eyes vigorously.
I looked up again and the stench of rubbish and rotting food hit my nostrils. I held my breath as I took in my surroundings. I was leaning up against a wall of a very narrow gap between two buildings. I pushed myself up on quacking knees and wobbled forwards.
I walked slowly out of the alleyway and found myself on a side road away from the town market. A wave of nausea made me rest against the wall suddenly. The sound of the busy town was a reminder I was still awake and with that I pushed myself off the wall and continued onward.
The side road was in the shadows of the buildings so it was quite dark but I as soon as I stepped into the market, the blinding light almost made me want to cower back into the darkness.
I squinted and shaded my eyes with my hand.
Men and women were bustling around the roads and shops. People minded their own business as they chatted and roamed peaceful among each other. The town being near the sea provided with a lot of goods and food, especially fish.
The day was as normal as ever, making it seem that last night was just a dream. However the aching of my chest and the pounding in my head made sure I knew it was real.
I had to get back to my uncle and inform him of what happened then the navy would be told of Warren’s treachery.
I sluggishly moved through the market area. A few gave me strange looks, mostly since I was still in my uniform that was covered in blotches of blood and dirt, but I simply ignored their hushed whispers.
I kept moving forward. The sooner I got to Uncle the better. Warren would be locked up and everything would go back to normal, or as close as normal could be.
The sky was clear with the sun shining brightly down. The day was beautiful. It was a strong contrast to the hideous events that occurred last night. It made me sick.
As I was drawing closer to the centre of the market, I could feel the gazes of shock and disgust bore into my back, but it didn't bother me. This town knew who I was and talk from the navy had always influenced everyone else's perspective of me.
Eventually I had to rest as it become to tiring to move. My legs felt wobbly and my chest ached as I breathed. I looked up and I saw the town's clock tower ahead. I staggered towards it and flopped roughly in its shadow, away from the light and prying eyes.
I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath. At the pace I was going it would take me a while to get to Uncle.
"There he is!"
My ears pricked to the shout coming from the crowd. I lifted my head up and saw a man running hurriedly towards me. He was dressed in the cleaner form of my uniform, indicating he was from the navy.
