CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

A few days had passed and nothing much had occurred; everyone was back to maintaining the ship and crew. Christof was nowhere to be seen, and I was glad of that; him not being present made my day a bit easier to endure . . . but not much.
I took the bucket of water and chucked it across the old wooden planks for a deck. I was mopping once again, but this time I made sure I was within others line of sight, being left alone on this ship had me scarred.
I took the stringy, tangled mop and sloshed it across the floor. I breathed out softly while I moved my arms in circular movements, guiding the mop to a small pace. Doing this often got me used to the chore of it; it also did not take me as long to finish the whole floor than before.
This also helped stop others from talking to me, well mostly everyone. Aiolous had suddenly become obsessed with communicating with me and being in my company. It was as though if that Demon Captain was not here glaring at me then that idiotic clown was there irritating the life out of me. Many times I had thought of grabbing his neck and throttling him there and then.
For now I was lucky, thankfully his assistance was needed somewhere and I was left to my own self. Ever since I had found out that monstrous creatures like witches existed, I was surprisingly calm about it, I assumed that knowing too much to comprehend, led to my thoughts shutting off and only focusing on what was happening in present time.I kept swabbing the deck with the salty water, back and forth, back and forth, creating small waves. I felt a rhythm to my movements, so I began to throw more water to the floor and swished the shaggy mop to a certain tempo. I hummed a soft tune as I swayed along with the mop.
I was completely entranced by the small melody in my head that I jumped suddenly when I felt someone’s eyes on me. I whipped around to the person, intruding in my personal space. My eyes skimmed the few members walking passed and landed on a scrawny young man. Our eyes locked and I instantly glared at him, it was that annoying kid; the one that had wanted to engage in conversation once, but I shunned him away immediately.
As soon as he saw me take an intimidating step forward, he quickly snapped out of his thoughts and hurriedly began his work again. A strand of hair fell in front of my face and I blew it out the way as the boy began dragging a heavily loaded sack across the floor. I continued to glare at him, as I could see he was trying to look at me from the corner of his eyes.
His face was down and he heaved the hemp woven sack towards the lower deck. The bag scrapped and snagged on the floor and I realised he was coming in my direction; I frowned deeply but took it as though he had to go in this direction. I half turned away from him and carried on mopping the floor, watching him carefully through my peripheral vision. He hauled the goods passed me and I continue to mop, showing no interest at the same time as watching him.
Suddenly someone stepped in front of him. It was that big bulky Man, with the dark skin and the younger man went crash straight into him and fell to the ground sharply, the sack left from his hands. The boy rubbed his back and looked up at the pirate who he bumped into. His eyes widened in fright at the sight of who it was and he slowly moved backwards.
The big man’s face twisted into rage as he took sight of the scrawny man, “Watch where you’ goin’, Cabin boy,” the giant sneered, his face in utter disgust at the last words. The boy managed to get to his feet and started taking steps away from him. The man glared and stalked towards him.
I felt like I was being hit with a memory of my past and without another thought I threw the rest of the bucket water on the floor in front of the giant man, causing him to stomp on the slippery surface and his feet flying in the air as he crashed to the floor.
