Tough luck was an understatement.

If anything, this whole situation was plain terrible.

He honestly had no idea how the hell it got here, but in some way, he ended up kicked out of his own kingdom by the nobles that were supposed to be helping him establish another town plaza.

The nobles had gotten awfully fed up with the king's attitude that they just bridged off and decided to kick him out, with the help of the many peasants who thought the same.

Even fate perhaps hated him, as everything was just not going his way.

So maybe he was a bit harsh on the others, but it was for the whole kingdom's benefit anyways!

He just couldn't understand.

And there was this annoying prince from this other kingdom who even vowed to take his place as king.

"As if such a short idiot could defeat me," he would grumble.

Along his path, he wound up getting lost in the forest (another one of fate's 'presents'), and before long, it had become dark.

"I just wanted to help people," he mumbled, bending down beside a big tree, hugging his legs with eyes starting to water.

Shutting his eyes, he had hoped that when he woke up, everything would just go back to normal already.

--

"What are you doing here? Sir, hey! Wake up," A voice rang in his ears.

He opened his eyes quickly.

A (h/c) girl who was around (height) had woken him, worry written all over her face and concern undeniably in her eyes.

"Where... am I?" Kageyama had asked, slowly rising up while scratching his eyes sleepily.

Gazing around, he noticed that he was in a small, cleared area in the middle of the woods— flowers were blooming amongst the fresh blades of grass, crickets chirped somewhere along the trunks of trees, and splashes and specks of sunlight just about reached the floor due to the huge trees providing quite a nice shade.

"Look, I don't know who you are or how you got here, but I can say two things about how you look. You look like an important person, but you look terrible! Have you been wandering around here for long? Your clothes are really dirty," she stated, bombarding him with words.

"Why would you care?" he muttered, looking away.

"I'm (l/n) (f/n), a forest dweller. Wanna stop by my house to clean up or something? I have food," she offered.

"I have a very rich taste—"

"See, this is the problem with important people. They always eat important food." She shook her head with a smile. "But lucky for you, I like to pretend sometimes, y'know. Like I'm some ruler of the woods. I sit on a tree stump, pretending I'm on a throne, and have my (preferred forest animal pet) bring me some curry. I heard somewhere that curry is an important food,"

"What the he—"

"There's a kingdom nearby here, and I happen to know a few people there, and they tell me all about it. I hear their king is pretty mean. But whatever. That's what I like about the forest, you're free to live," she rambled on.

"I'm that king." He rolled his eyes.

"Oh my gosh," she gasped, "I knew it! No wonder you sound kinda familiar. I've heard so much about you!"

He let out a groan. "I'm going,"

Standing up, he dusted his clothes and started to walk away from the girl, a bit annoyed at her outburst, as it was pretty unnecessary.

"Wait!" she called, jogging to him, "Can I at least offer you some curry? Someone told me that you like curry! Plus I think you could really use a bath!"

He stopped.

"Fine," he grumbled with a pout, "lead the way."

--

After bathing in the spring nearby the dweller's... dwelling, he headed back just in time to find his food almost ready to be devoured.

"You look lots better," (f/n) noticed, looking at him whilst stirring a small, rusty pot over a fire.

"Thanks. I guess," he shrugged, sitting down on one of the tree stumps surrounding a bigger wooden table.

"You're very welcome," she winked, covering the pot with it's lid, which was just as worn out as the pot itself. "It's almost ready."

He remained silent, resting his head on his arm while drumming his fingers on the table with a clearly bored face.

In just a few minutes, the dish was prepared and (f/n) had served it to her guest, hoping it would satisfy his hunger and taste.

"I've been meaning to ask," she started, wiping her mouth, "you don't see kings in the forest unarmed and alone. What gives?"

He sighed.

"Long story,"

"Ah, I see. Sorry,"

He quickly waved his hands in front of his face, "Don't apologize,"

"Eh?"

He fell into a silence, shifting his gaze to the floor, but started talking once again in a softer tone.

"I don't know why you decided to help me. Honestly. I don't. But... t-thiff... thefs.... t-thanks. Anyways, you know how people call me harsh? Y-You see... uh," he began, "I was kind of... kicked out... out of the kingdom by my supposed 'fellow' nobles. But things went wrong and I got lost, fell asleep, and probably got rained on while I was sleeping,"

She nodded, continuing to listen to this rather peculiar story.

"So um... thanks. For letting me in your home. For giving me food and letting me take a bath in that spring. For being uh, nice to someone like me." By this time a tiny, faint, minuscular, almost-invisible hint of red was tainted on his cheeks.

All she could reply with was a chuckle.

"Really? You got kicked out of your own kingdom? That's insane!" she laughed, "but what's funnier is that you're actually far from harsh at times,"

He blinked at her.

"You're actually a nice person to have as company. It gets pretty lonely here," she continued, heaving out a small sigh.

"M-Must be," he agreed. "Anyways, thanks for listening and for the food. Sorry to be of trouble to you. I guess I'll go now and try to find a place to stay,"

The king (or whatever you call someone who's been kicked out of their own kingdom) stood up, bowed, and started to head off.

"W-Wait!" she stuttered, standing up as well.

"I know this will sound crazy, I mean, I don't even know your name. But uh— since you don't have a place to s-stay, do you wanna stay here?"

He looked back at her, shocked at the sudden offer.

"It's Kageyama. Kageyama Tobio. And... fine. I guess I'll stay here after all."
