Best Friend's Boyfriend
Chapter 8

"No," Michael whispers, a tear falling down his cheek. "No, Ashton. Please."

Tears slide down my cheeks. "I don't have a reason to live. I'm a burden on you, Luke hates me and Calum, you're probably just pitying me. My family hates me," I sniffle.

"Ashton!" Michael's eyes widen. "Don't you ever fuçking say that again! You think you're a burden on me? I'm your best friend, Ashton! You don't have a reason to live? What about me?"

I open my mouth but he shushes me.

"No. Let me talk for once. Ashton, have you ever thought of it from my way? Yes, you lost Lily, but it happens, that's life! If Lily was here and you crying over someone else, what would she say? She wouldn't encourage you to do that. She'd tell you weird shiz like they are watching over you in heaven or something. Yeah, I hated Lily, but she was the wisest person I have ever met! She would not approve of this!"

"She's not here to approve or disapprove is she?" I mumble.

"Look at it from my way then. I may not be a reason for you to live, but you are a reason for me to live. If you died it would be very selfish of you, because then I would be in that bed, moping over my best friend, my fuckîng brother, who died for lost love. I'd die for you, Ashton. So many other people would. Gemma. Caspar. Joe. Marcus, Oli, Connor, Troye, Tyler and all those bunch. I would."

"I'd die for Michael," Luke pipes up quietly.

"I'd die for Luke," Calum shrugs.

Michael smiles, even though his eyes are glistening with tears.

"See, Ash? By kilłing yourself, you'd be slowly killîng everyone."

I look away, not responding, because I knew Michael was right. And I hated that.

Michael knew that I had internally accepted what he said but would not do so externally yet.

"I love you, you're my brother," he says softly, before leaving, a pair of footsteps following him.

I assumed that the footsteps were Luke's and he was going to comfort his boyfriend but when I looked up, Calum was gone and Luke was standing in his place.

He didn't say anything, he just walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, observing me.

I observed him too. His eyes were perfectly blue. I could see my reflection in them. His hair was up in a quiff. Was. It was now lying flat.

His lip ring was silver and shiny, and his lip bled from all the nervous biting on it.

"I don't hate you," he says simply.

He gets up, hands me a coffee and heads towards the door.

I shrug externally, seeing him leaving, but my heart gets shattered on the inside.

"I guess I should get used to this, huh?" I mumble.

Luke stops. "Get used to what?"
