I woke up to the sensation of small kisses trailing up my neck. Lovely wake up call by mine truly. It must have been late though, for I was not greeted by blissful rays of morning sunlight. Instead I swam in the moon glow, barely conscious enough to bob up and down in the thick light. I rolled over on my side to face him.

"You need to wake up." He cooed. I mumbled.

"Dan... What time is it?"

"Hm? It's 5 a.m."

"Oh my god, you're insane. Go back to bed." I grumbled. Despite already touching me he tried to shimmy closer.

"I'm sorry to wake you up, but we should probably leave." He whispered.

"Why? It's so early in the morning..." I whined.

"Because I just got a text from Phil, he said the doctor had to reschedule the appointment and he's doing even worse now." Dan sat up. He slid out of the  bed and pulled on some pants and slipped into the plain shirt he worse yesterday, and after he finished changing he turned on the bedroom light. I hissed, squeezing my eyes shut and throwing  the comforter over my head.

"Ugh, can't Phil wait like 5 minutes?"

"(y/n), Phil can't wait 5 seconds. Let's go help him." I muttered an insult and sat up, throwing on yesterday's clothes like Dan had. After gathering  what little things we brought  in Dan and I left the room without another word to say.

It was dark while we walked. The streets and sidewalks quiet as if the  whole place was abandoned. The only few places still open were a few coffee shops and 24 hour fast food places. I yawned, still  half awake from when we woke up. I asked Dan to stop and get us each a cup of coffee to wake us up. He did, and while we were walking back I tripped over  a crack in the concrete and spilled my coffee all over myself. Dan gave me his jacket to cover the stain and the rest of his coffee. I frowned as we continued to amble our way back to our flat.

"You're so good to me... Why? Why are you so nice to me?" I started. My emotions finally started to show,  "You hardly knew me, I was a stranger that you found in your bed. I didn't do anything for you. I could have been an awful person. I still could be. Why are you being nice to me?" Dan looked down at me for a second, blank faced, then smiled.

"It's because I fell in love."  I frowned even more.

"Don't give me that. Tell me for real. You didn't fall in love with me when you first saw me, so what made you act that way?" Dan's smile fell into a flat line.

"Is it wrong that I was a good person just because I wanted to be? That I just acted that way out of the goodness of my heart?"

"Well.. No... But I mean, you put yourself through a lot more trouble than you had to for me..."

"For one thing, you don't know if what I felt was love at first sight. You don't know what I felt when I first saw you. And I care about you, girlfriend or just friend, I will still love you the same. And I will still help you in any situation. Yeah, I didn't know you at the beginning, but that won't stop me from being a good person. Growing up, I learned that you should be nice to anyone whether you know them or not, because you don't know what they are going through and you don't know how much more they can take. Sometimes even the smallest kind gestures you do can make someone's day. Maybe even make them want to stay and live another day. So I promised myself that I would be kind to anyone. Even if I don't know them. Even if I don't agree with their opinions. Even if they don't treat me right or in the same way I treat them. The only exception is when they continuously hurt someone that is not myself." Dan sighed after saying all that. He seemed a little drained. I used my index finger and wrapped it around his own. He looked down at our fingers holding each other, then looked to me who's mouth was curled into a small smile.

"You're right Dan. And you know, I think I'll do the same. Be nice to everyone despite any of those things. Everyone should be that way." The corners of his mouth pulled up slightly, but it was obvious he was trying to hide his grin.

"Hey, I'm not here to teach anyone anything. I'm just being myself."

"You don't have to be so humble, Dan." I winked at him. He let go of my index finger and clasped his whole hand around mine. He didn't reply, and I didn't start anymore conversations.

We stayed that way the entire walk home.

After arriving to the flat, we saw Phil sprawled on the couch passed out. I didn't think it was possible, but he looked even worse than when we left him. His skin a whole different shade and small beads of sweat trickling down the sides of his face. I ran up to him and checked his pulse, which was pounding rapidly. His skin felt as if it had little bumps under it. Dan shook him until he woke up. Phil didn't open his eyes but he did roll over and mumbled something about how sore he was. Dan helped Phil sit up and he finally opened his eyes. They were bloodshot from the lack of sleep he had gotten.

"Oh my god Phil, how do you feel?"

"Like absolute crap."

"I bet, do you want anything?" I offered.

"Water, please." I didn't hesitate to rush to the kitchen. Of course, I ran into the glass door, cursed, entered the kitchen, filled a glass with ice cold water to the brim, and rushed it back to Phil in the den. He chugged the entire thing in one sitting. After he finished it his nose started to leak blood. Dan retrieved a tissue and pressed it to his nose. Phil held it in place as it continued to absorb his blood.

"Hey (y/n), call and make another appointment with the doctor sooner. This is getting serious." I took the phone off of the receiver and punched in the numbers. It rang twice before someone picked up. I scheduled on for today at 8 and hung up.

"He's coming over at 8." I informed the two of them.

"Alright, good." I looked around the flat and noticed that it was rather empty compared to last night.

"Where did my family go?" Phil scanned the room.

"I'm not too sure, actually. I don't really remember too well what happened last night, but I do remember them getting a little mad that you left. They asked me where you went and I just said you went out. They decided not to stay here because I was super sick and they told me they didn't want to get "infected". Which is understandable, but they were a little rude about it. They told me they were planning on coming back though."  I grimaced. I didn't forget about what awful and rude people they were.

"I'm sorry we left you alone with them.." I apologized. Phil coughed, then smiled.

"It's no big deal, don't worry about it. I have met more unpleasant people in my day," he reassured me. I felt a little bit better, but not much, "but like I said, they will be coming back. I don't know when though. So if you don't wanna be caught with them..."
