Song of the chapter// All of the stars by Ed Sheeran

Abigail Devon's POV...

I am sorry......I really am. These six words repeated in my mind over and over since it came out of him. At first, I thought I was hearing things and my mind was playing games with me but when he leaned in and wiped the stray tears from my cheek using his thumb, I was confirmed that he did say those words. Since then, these words reiterated in my mind again and again to the point I couldn't think of anything else.

"Hello? Earth to Abigail. Hello?" Julie's frantic squeaky voice and a violent shake brought me out of my thoughts. I looked at her and Selena who was sitting beside her with a puzzled look as they studied me curiously.

"What?" I asked.

"What do you mean what? We have been like calling your name past ten minutes." Julie cried out, raising her eyebrows and speculating me. "Where's your mind travelling to?"

I sighed and rubbed my face with my hands. "Sorry, I zoned out. I was just thinking of something." I replied honestly.

"Is something bothering you? You know you can tell us." Selena chirped in smiling encouragingly at me.

"Yeah, she is right. If there's anything, just puke it out of your system." Julie agreed with Selena. As I was leaving the party, I got a text from her saying that she was coming for a sleepover and since Selena was with me, I invited her too.

Julie came exactly ten minutes later after we reached home. Surprise would be an understatement to say how fast Selena and Julie became friends. It's not like I am complaining – I am happy that they got along so well, it's just that when they started talking – it was like two long lost friends were talking after being separated for twenty years. Nevertheless, I am happy for them.

I opened my mouth to speak but Selena chimed in. "Wait! Does it have anything to do with Eugene?"

I stared at them as they stared back at me waiting for an answer whilst I chewed on my bottom lip nervously debating on how to explain the thoughts that were swirling inside my head at a rapid rate.

"I knew it. I just knew it." Selena announced with conviction after I didn't answer for another minute. "I knew it has something to do with Eugene. What happened, Abigail? Did he hurt you?"

I sighed and exhaled a long breath when I realized they were not going to let it go. I shifted and leaned back against the couch whilst they watched me carefully. Then, I started telling them about my encounter with him at the cemetery and how it led to a bitter argument between us.

I cringed at the words spoken by Eugene that day when I repeated them to Julie and Selena. Selena intake a sharp breath whilst Julie's face was expressionless, listening intently to the story as if I was reciting something fascinating or romantic.

When I reached the last part, telling about the conversation which was more of an argument we had at the party about three hours ago, Selena's eyes wide opened and then she blinked rapidly as if she was having a hard time believing me.

"He said sorry. Are you sure he used the exact same word?" Selena inquired, clearly implausible by the theory I just laid before them. I don't blame her though. If I was in her place I couldn't believe either that Eugene Hansen had it in him to apologize for something.

"I know it's a bit hard to believe but he did use that word. I was surprised myself." I admitted.

"It's reallyyyyy hard. I have known him since middle school and I swear I haven't heard him use that word to anyone. Not even Chris." Selena shook her head in disbelief.
