Song of the chapter// All I Want by by Kodaline
Abigail Devon's POV...
Words couldn't describe the amount of pain that hit my heart. One moment, everything was so perfect, we were having so fun and the next moment – everything fell apart. It felt like we were struck by a tornado that took everything with it leaving an unconscious Eugene in my lap.
"Eugene, open your eyes, please." I begged for the thousandth time that night as the paramedics shifted him in stretcher and carried him to the ambulance. I was beyond terrified when out of nowhere blood oozed from Eugene's head and minutes later, he was attacked by number of goons.
At first, my mind stopped working at the site before me but when finally the brutality of the scene happening before me registered in my brain, I snapped myself out of the shock and started shouting for help but no one dared to come in front to fight with those humongous people that were pummeling Eugene at the ground. My heart broke for him.
Luckily, an old woman called the cops and within a few moments, I could hear the sirens blaring from the distance.
The people, that now I remembered were the same ones that had tried to attack him twice in the past, panicked at the sound of cops approaching. They quickly stopped their actions and scurried of to their car but it was too late. The cops had already arrived and surrounded them. I scurried to where Eugene lay unconscious: beaten, bloodied, and weak. My heart writhed in pain at the sight of him looking so vulnerable.
"Somebody call 911." I shouted through tears as I gently held his head and placed it on my lap. I tried calling him numerous times, pleading him to remain conscious. I was sure he was trying his best to open his eyes but he couldn't do so. "Eugene!"
"We need to take him to the hospital. The paramedics are on their way, miss. Meanwhile, we would need your statement to get the better view as of what happened exactly." A tall man in the cop's uniform spoke, crouching beside me. The last statement triggered my anger into a new level that I was trying my best to bottle inside me.
"Are you insane? You want me to give you my statement when he is in this condition."
"We comprehend with what you're feeling right now, miss but I am just doing my job. We need to know the details so we could proceed further with our work." The sheriff replied, calmly unaffected by my outburst.
I took a deep breath to calm down my nerves before speaking again. "I am sorry but as you can see, I can't focus on anything except him. I will tell you everything once the paramedics arrive and we take him to a hospital. Can you wait till then?"
The officer nodded. "'Course we do, miss."
"Thank you." I replied, looking down at the beautiful face of Eugene which was all bruised, blood smearing all over his face. The paramedics arrived after a short span of time and immediately started checking on Eugene. I held his hand throughout the time as they put the oxygen mask over his face and started carrying him towards the ambulance.
As we neared the hospital, I quickly called Chris, telling him about Eugene and gave the name of the hospital we were taking him to. I knew I should inform his parents but since I didn't know their number and his phone was broken so I called the only person I knew he was close to. Chris panicked initially but quickly recovered from the shock and informed me he will be there in ten minutes before disconnecting the call.
"Is he ok?" I asked to one of the paramedics who were checking on him, my voice shivering from the fear as I tightened my grip on his hand.
"I can't say anything right now. He seems to have lost a good amount of blood and the wound in his head is also not telling anything good you want to hear. I can just advice you to have faith." He smiled reassuringly but it didn't do anything to calm my already edgy nerves.
