I sat in the sand with, my knee's pulled to my chest, waiting for Raegan. I've been waiting for the last half hour. I sighed running a hand through my hair. I was starting to doubt she'd even show up.
After about ten more minutes I stood up and brushed the sand off my shorts. Frustrated, I grabbed the boards and started walking back to the shack. I actually brought them today 'cause I figured I'd have her sit on it in the shallows, so she could get used to the feel.
"Casper!"
I turned around to see Raegan walking towards me. She broke into a slow jog and stopped in front of me. She had a smile on her face and the light breeze softly blew her hair around.
"Hey, so we upgraded to the boards already?" She teased.
"Look Raegan, I know we're friends and all but, this is my job." I stated. "I can't just sit around waiting for you." I said ignoring the double meaning.
"I'm sorry?" She said in more of a question than a statement. I sighed handing her one of the boards. She furrowed her eyebrows as she took it.
"I'm going to have you sit on it, in the shallows, so you can get used to the feel." I explained quickly and started walking to the water.
"Casper wait." She said grabbing my arm. I turned towards her and the hurt in her eyes made me want to go sit in a corner and cry. I mentally took a deep breath and steeled myself.
"Yeah?" I questioned.
"Are you alright?" She asked resting the tail of her board into the sand.
"I'm fine." I answered. Raegan narrowed her eyes and put a hand on her hip."Look, if this is about last night-" She started but, I cut her off.
"Why would it be about last night? It didn't mean anything right?" I challenged, she winced a little. "Besides if I'm mad about anything it's the fact that you made me wait for forty minutes before you decided show up." I snapped than headed towards the water. I instantly felt guilty for snapping but, I didn't turn back around, I just kept walking. I didn't even bother to see if she was following me.
I left my board on the shore and walked into the water till I was about thigh deep. Raegan stopped next to me and I took the board from her. Setting it in the water I held it steady while she climbed on top of it. She looked a little quesy as she straddled it.
"Alright now close your eyes." I instructed. She obeyed. I grabbed her hands and placed them on top of the water palms down.
"Tell me what you hear, what you feel." I said softly. She furrowed her eyebrows.
"I feel," She hesitated. "the water gently lapping my hands and my board. I hear seagulls and the waves crashing against the shore." She answered. I nodded my head.
"Alright I want you to lay on your stomach and start paddling. Every thing has a rhythm, find the rhythm of the ocean." I said. Her eyes feel open with shock.
