Jacob pulled up his car and turned the engine off. Looking up at the house, he noticed none of the lights were on, which he thought was slightly odd.
He sighed and turned around and grabbed a bag out the back of the car, it opened it up and pulled out a card, it had a picture of a sunset over a lake on the front. He found a pen in the glove box and wrote:
Connie,
Just thought you might want a little get away,
Enjoy!
Jacob
He placed two tickets in the card and placed the card back in the bag, before leaving the car and entering the house.
'Connie?' He called, putting his head into the lounge, turning the light on.
He felt a tap on his shoulder, and turned around. Connie was listening to someone on the phone, but her facial expression suggested that they were saying something she didn't want to here.
'Okay, thanks for letting me know.' She said, before hanging up and walking past Jacob into the lounge.
'Is everything okay?' Jacob asked, sitting on the sofa.
'There's good news and bad news.' She sighed, sitting next to him.
'Start with the bad news.'
'Well, there wasn't enough evidence for Ollie being charged for domestic abuse. but he has been charged with tax avoidance, which, if he's found guilty he could be looking at a prison sentence which could be up to two years.' Connie told him, half - smiling.
'Okay, that's good news, it could have been better, but at least he's going down.' Jacob said, smiling reassuringly, before placing his hand on her shoulder and squeezing it gently.
'Yeah, the only downside is he's been put on bail until the trial, which should be sometime in the next couple of months. But I can apply for a restraining order against him' Connie explained, sitting next to Jacob on the sofa.
'See, there's always another way.' He said, turning to face her more.
He looked at her face, and realised that she looked really stressed and tired. It really broke his heart to see her that way.
'I have a little gift for you.' He smiled, passing her the bag.
She opened the card and smiled, pulling out the tickets.
'Two tickets to the Isles of Scilly?' She asked, amused.
'I thought you might want a weekend away' He stated simply.
'What would I do without you, eh?' She smirked at him, half joking.
Their eyes met, and Connie smiled, a genuine smile which made her whole face light up, and it made Jacob's heart flutter.
They stared intently into each others eyes for a few seconds, before Jacob leaned in and kissed Connie softly.
Connie kissed Jacob back, but as the kiss become more passionate, Connie pulled away.
'What?' Jacob asked worriedly.
'I'm just surprised, that's all.' She replied, before stroking his cheek and kissing him again.
