[Tessa's POV]

He had taken full control of my body. Though technically I guess you could call it his body since I no longer looked anything like myself. His pain, his hatred, his everything had now become mine. I was no longer Tessa, I was Winston Ashdale. Most shifts are not this powerful. Normally, they are gone as quickly as they arrive, leaving me little time for me to gather information. Perhaps Winston believed he was being strong by sticking around this long, but he was not. Arguably, he (or his body, seeing as he was physically elsewhere) was doing a superb job of attempting to block me, but I had had many more years of practice at this than he ever would. His name was Winston Léon Ashdale, seven-teen years old, born in Idris but had moved to France with his parents when he was young. He had lived at the institute in Paris, France alongside his younger sister. He had tried to flee to Québec and was almost there when something happened, there was a problem. What was that problem? What was he fleeing from or who? I tried to slip deeper and deeper into his subconscious when . . .

I was back in my old house, the same one I had lived in with husband Will Herondale so many years ago. I saw Will glance up at me and smile so blissfully. Why was he smiling like that? Something seemed wrong, unbalanced, strange, but I tried to go along with it. He took my hands in mine and we both rose off the cushion as he wrapped his arms around my waist and we kissed. It was deep, passionate, oh how I loved him so. As we clung together I heard a strange voice pulling my attention away from the present and I could feel Will drifting farther away. Just before he disappeared all together he whispered "I love you Tess," and he was gone. I stayed a while like that, just floating around in oblivion. It was peaceful, relaxing even until something triggered my memory, and that bliss was gone.

Tessa: "NOOOOOOOOO!" I screamed as I woke up in my own skin. "What happened to me?"

Magnus: "Winston left and you fell unconscious."

Gary: "Does that always happen?"

Tessa: "No. No, It does not."

Jem then grabbed my hand and helped me stand up. I was a little bit dizzy, so I placed my hands on his chest to steady myself. My heart was pounding. Regaining a bit of my stability, I glanced up at Jem feeling guilty. I know I cannot control my own unconscious thoughts, yet I still felt this sadness wash over me as if I was going to fold in half and waste away into nothing. Losing Will again was to much to handle. Tess. He had called me Tess. Will was the only one to ever call me that, it was something special between us that nobody could ever take. Seeing him in my subconscious had felt like nothing else before. It felt to real, to vivid to be a dream, yet what else could it have been? Even in the present I could still feel his touch on my skin. Come on, I had to focus.

Gary: "Do you know where he his? By the angel, please tell me you know where he is."

Tessa: "It is possible," I straightened my spine trying to gain as much height as my bones would allow, "but we must hurry."
