[Jem’s POV]

We left the hotel room immediately. It was about 7:00 am and the sun was still rising in the distance. I glanced over at Tessa who was applying various runes onto her arms as we continued down the pathway.

Under normal circumstances we would look out of place what with our all black attire and winding marks over our skin, and of course Magnus. He sticks out everywhere we go. Between his slit cat eyes and glittering clothes there is no such thing as ‘blending in’ for Magnus Bane. However, this hotel has seen its fair share of the shadow world. As we made our way to the small diner located around the corner from the hotel I could see things I hadn’t noticed before. I guess when we passed this place last night we were too tired to pay attention.

I pushed open the door just as a the sky began to rumble. Wonderful. I thought sarcastically to myself, a storm must be on the way.

Waitress: “Good morning handsome.” she began as a sadistic grin was appearing on her face.

Magnus: “Sorry, I would but unfortunately for you I am on the other team at the moment.”

Waitress: “What? Oh no, I wasn’t talking to you.” she said winking in my direction.

Quickly I moved my hand into Tessa’s and brought her closer to me. As I looked into the waitresses eyes, the glamour peeled away. Her skin was tinted a light purple colour and her ears were pointed at the tips. She was obviously a faerie come to work among the mundanes. From my experience, downworlders did not mesh among benign society alone; If there was one there was many.

She led us through the small diner and offered us a booth in the back corner. We sat down and began planning out where we were headed as soon as we saw her walk away.

Jem: “So what were you all thinking? Personally I believe we should head towards the docks and wait.”

Tessa: “Same here. That is where he was when I changed so I believe we should at least try there first.”

I could feel Tessa’s gaze as I began speaking with Magnus. Glancing to the side I stared into her eyes and felt my heart begin to beat faster. I would not be surprised if she could hear the beats of my heart, that is how loud it was in my ears. My heart has never felt such longing from only a mere glance. Something changed after last night. Our connection blossomed from a love to something even stronger which could never be bent or broken, what we had felt for each other before was a breeze in what is now a tornado. I could not imagine a love in all the dimensions stronger than ours.

[Tessa’s POV]

I felt myself getting lost in Jem’s eyes. His voice was as smooth and soft as silk, yet there was such strength behind his words. Though these words were no more special than any other words there was something about them that made my chest ache; I needed him more than I needed air.

[Jem’s POV]

We all continued talking and planning until we saw our waitress coming with our breakfast. I had ordered some simple eggs and an biscuit with jam.

Tessa: “Do you have any mango? I would really like some.”

Jem: “Since when have you eaten mangoes?”

Tessa: “Will always loved them, he would always make sure we bought one when we could.”

The table went silent for a few moments at the mention of Will’s name. Ave Atque Vale I thought to myself. A few more moments had passed in silence before we were snapped out of our moment of thought.

[Magnus’s POV]

At the mention of Will Herondale we had all gone silent. I had long ago learned how to move on with the passing of friends. Through my hundreds of years on earth I had seen many carry on to the other side, it was a part of mortality that Tessa had not quite learned to deal with yet. Time will tell that it is easier to forget the past than wish it still existed in the present.

[Tessa’s POV]

There a crash as the glass windows came shattering to the ground. We reacted immediately and began calling out the names of our seraph blades in case this attack was for us to deal with. Making our way quickly to the front of the diner we looked to see who had attacked and were taken aback. The stench of demon was in the air yet there was none to be seen. Perhaps the attack was merely a warning at what was to come, maybe Winston knew we were coming for him and had sent some demons to get us but they had failed. Either way they were gone now.

Tessa: “What ever it was, it’s gone now.” I sighed relaxing my tensed up muscles.

I turned around expecting to see James and Magnus standing behind but as I was beginning to look over my shoulder there was a sharp pain in the back of my neck. As I felt myself begin floating in and out of consciousness I was able to find my capturer’s face, though before I knew it the darkness was too complete and I could no longer resist falling deeper and deeper into it.
