Chapter 8: Sacrifice

[Tessa's POV]

I waited until Magnus closed the door to walk back over to Jem. He was still asleep so I crawled along the bed to lay directly beside him. He looked so different when he was sleeping, it was magnificent. I did not want to disturb his rest, but we had to go.

Tessa: "Jem," I whispered in his ear, "Wake up! It's time to leave."

He turned over so that he was now facing me. As he looked up into my eyes I could see all the love inside of him. His eyes shone like the morning sunrise, and it was beautiful. He was beautiful.

[Jem's POV]

I woke up to Tessa's voice whispering in my ear. What a more lovely way to start off the day. Last night was magnificent. I had never experienced anything of such magnitude as then. Even though we are on a mission, maybe I can get Magnus's help with finding time to get her a ring?

Jem: "Good morning dear Tessa," I said grinning up at her happier then I had ever been before.

Gazing into my eyes she leaned down, softly brushing her lips against mine and moved her hand so that her fingers were intertwined between my own. If I had the ability I would freeze time and stay in this moment for eternity with her. She was my Tessa, and I never wanted to let her leave my embrace. Ever so reluctantly, she pulled away until I was sitting up beside her.

Tessa: "Good morning James Carstairs."

Jem: "James Carstairs? Why I should hope we are past such formalities in which we must include eachother's surname."

I saw Tessa's  face light up as she began to chuckle quietly to herself.

Tessa: "Yes, we are past such formalities. I just enjoy the sound of your name."

Jem: "Well okay then, you may proceed with doing so."

Tessa: "This is why I love you Jem. You can make me laugh without even trying, but really though, we must get going."

[Gary Ashdale's POV]

I woke to the rising sun over the Atlantic ocean. It was still too early for most to be out so I had to get out of here while I still stood a chance. Where to go to next was the problem? If I made my way to the institute my identity would surely be given away, I had already decided that I must not interact with other nephilim. If I want to survive I must blend in to mundane society. I would like to cross the ocean so I could reach North America and hopefully make a new life for myself. I had planned on stowing away on the massive cargo ships that come in and out of the harbour daily, but there is still something I must do while I remain on this side of the world. I need my revenge for what has been done to me, a sacrifice must be given.

[Magnus's POV]

Jem and Tessa made their way out of their hotel room and into the lobby. They were fully dressed in shadowhunter attire, though Tessa did not have pure nephilim blood, she was trained as every shadowhunter before and after her.

Magnus: "Where to?"

Tessa: "I say we check the docks. I know it has been long enough for Gary to have moved more than once since I shifted, but let's hope he hasn't been smart enough to leave the area."

Author's Note:

I have had writers block reacently, which is why I haven't posted in so long. I have been getting comments on my Instagram about when I will be posting next so I decided I would just write anyways. When I was writing this I came up with a few more ideas for the story, so hopefully my writers block will be gone! However, because school will be starting up again in about a week and a half I will not have time to write, but hopefully I can still get a new chapter up ever 1 or 2 weeks! If you guys have any ideas for the story please tell me them in the comments and I might just put them in the story! Until next time, Ave Atque Vale . . .

p.s. I saw The Mortal Instruments a few days ago and wasn't it amazing? For anyone who has seen it, what do you think about the change at the ending? How are they going to make that work for City of Glass?
