"I tripped and fell on my face during one of the dances." I lied. I was a terrible liar and I knew Mum would see right through it.
She narrowed her eyes at me "Okay, we'll talk about it later." I groaned inwardly. Why would she never let anything go?
Cobie saved me by changing the subject quickly.
"So, I thought I might take J-Luke to the skate park tomorrow."
Oh did I mention? My brother, Jamie, skates. Along with his little friends. They are actually really good for eight year olds but Jamie's the best. I'm not biased I swear.
Mum frowned. "Are you sure that's a good idea Cobie?"
"Oh let him go Lucy, he deserves to have some fun." Dad said.
"What if he gets hurt?"
"He wont get hurt, you've seen him skate he's practically a pro."
I looked across the table at Jamie. He was blushing. No surprise either he didn't think he was that good and never knew what to say when we told him he was good. I smiled to myself secretly pleased that he was at least a little bit like me.
"What if one of the other kids picks on him?"
Cobie and I looked at each other then rolled our eyes.
"Mum", I butted in, "We all know that J-Luke is like king of the little kids so if anyone said anything to him I'm sure it wouldn't pass by his friends."
"What if it's an older boy who says something ?"
"Mum, Cobie will be there. He'll be fine."
Mum stared at me for a moment as if trying to decide something, she nodded her head "you can go too then."
"Why?!" I exclaimed stunned. "Ruby and I were giving each other manicures and then we were going to watch some movies."
Mum had managed to ruin my whole weekend successfully.
"Well I want two of Jamie's siblings with him so I know he is extra safe."
"I promised Ruby though Mum."
"I'm sure Ruby doesn't mind! Do you?"
"Not at all Mrs E!" Ruby exclaimed. "Besides, there might be some nice boys there."
I groaned under my breath. That's what I was afraid of.
After tea we had a family game (plus Ruby) of Monopoly. I love Monopoly it's my most favourite game ever. Cobie was the banker and I'm sure he was cheating though he was adamant he wasn't. Funny how he could never say he wasn't without smiling though but he claimed that was because of how serious I was being. Well duh, it's Monopoly, you can't joke around, must concentrate at all times.
Soon enough it was time for bed since Ruby and I now had to get up early to go to the skate park with Cobie and Jamie. We were leaving at ten so I would have to be up at eight.
The next morning I woke up at ten to eight and wasted no time hopping straight into the shower. I had taken my clothes into the bathroom with me because I thought it was a little weird to wear just a towel in front of Ruby.
Today I was wearing pink skinny jeans, a white singlet top, white socks with my pink DC's and my necklace with the peace sign on it.
Once I had showered, dressed, brushed my hair and teeth I emerged into my room. Ruby was still under covers. Fortunately for her it doesn't take her long to get ready in the morning. I waited for her to notice me. I counted down in my head three two one . .
"You have like no legs Jane, you look so fab in skinny jeans."
I smiled she had noticed me.
"Just get in the shower Rubes."
"Fine" she grumbled. Just because it doesn't take her long to get ready in the morning doesn't mean she likes getting out of bed. She's even less of a morning person than me.
Once Ruby was ready we headed downstairs. Cobie had stayed the night so him and Jamie could have a sleep over together.
"Oh he's so sweet!" Ruby had said when I told her what they were doing. I rolled my eyes at the memory. I got the feeling she would think every thing Cobie does as cute or sweet.
Mum had a tray of muffins and a glass of orange juice set out for breakfast. Great! I was starving. Oh did I mention? I was skinny but I had way more than my recommended three meals a day. I was like a growing boy. Always hungry.
"Yum!" Ruby exclaimed taking two muffins from the tray. She didn't have as big of an appetite as me but she was more of a pig then me.
"You lot ready to go?" Cobie asked an hour later.
"Lets get out of here before Mum finds me and gives me a lecture" Jamie said.
We all laughed.
"Kids!" Mum called. We all groaned we had almost made it out the door.
We turned around.
"Have you got your knee pads Jamie?"
"I don't need them Mum."
"What if you fall off your skateboard?"
"I wont Mum."
"What if you do?"
"I wont!"
"Yeah, but what if you do?"
"I- w.."
"Mum!" I cut in. "I'll grab J-Luke's stuff and if I think he needs them I'll make him wear them."
Mum relaxed a little. "Okay thanks Janie."
Jamie glared at me, grabbing his skateboard as he headed to Cobie's car.
"Bye Mum."
"Bye Lucy."
"Bye Mrs E."
We all headed out the door after Jamie. Jamie didn't even look at me as I climbed in the back beside him.
I sighed. "J-Luke, I'm not going to make you wear them I was just trying to get Mum off your back."
He cheered up in a hurry "thanks Jane!"
Jamie had never called me Jane before so I was a bit taken a back but I didn't mind him calling me that.
Jamie had practically jumped out of the car before the car had even stopped when we arrived at the skate park. He rushed over to where he could see his friends, leaving us to walk over by ourselves.
Once Cobie had locked the car he, Ruby and I picked a seat beside the bowl that you skated/ scooted in and sat down. Jamie had his helmet on but he didn't mind wearing it because all his friends did too so it was considered a cool item. It's a shame they didn't think it was cool just for the fact it would save their lives if they fell.
They were young though, they would learn one day.
He waved at us before launching himself, and his skateboard, down into the bowl.
I turned to say something to Ruby when I heard a voice I really didn't want to hear behind me.
"So, I hear you fully choked in front of Troy yesterday."
