Flying High

A little earlier than normal in the year,  I'm heading west to join my lovely colleagues at Wattpad HQ in Toronto.  I really enjoy flying, and indeed travelling in general, as you get to see things you wouldn't otherwise normally see, and talk to all sorts of interesting (and sometimes downright weird) people.

Last time I flew back in Oct though I missed my flight. The only person this affected was me really so it wasn't a problem and Air Canada looked after me very well, managing to get me on a flight a few hours later which was grand.

And the reason for the delay?  A crashed lorry on the M4 which completely blocked the road for about 2 hours. The driver was apparently ok which was good but unfortunately his entire load had spilled across the motorway. I can safely say I've never seen so many toilet rolls in one place before,  and at least there was something handy to wipe up the resulting fuel spill. Soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent one would hope, and at least if a tanker of effluent had crashed at the same time things would've been ok.

I left three hours late, but because I was flying west, we ended up following the sunset which was an entirely new and very lovely experience.  Glass of wine in hand, I watched a three hour long sunset.

This is also the first thing I think I've written on two different continents. That bit ^^ in the UK, and the part below in Canada.

This time on my flight I had a glorious window seat near a door, so extra leg room. And out of the window we rose above the drizzle and grey of a London winter, flew over icebergs and the winter wonderland that is undeveloped Canada, and as I type this I've just had a filling meal and a nice glass of beer.

Sometimes, even if you're on your own, there's a simple joy to travelling and one I hope I never grow tired of. Although I could live without any more bog roll spills...
