Sirens

Intro

"Let's go Calista! We've got work to do," Jack yells.
"Ya, ya I'm coming."
I grab my emergency bag of weapons (that I have never had to use) and swim to the door where my best friend waited. We quickly swam to the rocks to do our specialized job. After waiting for hours a ship finally came into view and we started to sing.
Into the sea. Hold you close to me. Slide 'neath the waves, down into the caves.
The sailors' eyes glazed over as the started to walk to the side of their ship. We continued to sing the haunted song when I looked over at Jack. His face was concentrated on singing. The other sirens around me helped select sailors off the ship and pulled them under the crashing waves with a kiss. The myth of a mermaid's kiss allowing one to breathe underwater was true. The rest of the men and women were left on the ship to crash after we left.
The sailors that we took will be turned into merpeople. We are constantly hunted and killed by diseases caused by pollution in the sea and we don't reproduce enough to keep our species alive. So we have to turn some.
We all dove under the sea and then felt the vibrations of the ship crashing into the rocks.
"Aaaannnnddd our work is done. Wanna go to the Cave?" Jack asked
"Sure why not. " I replied
"Let's race"
"K. Why not. " I smirked thinking I was going to win. But then I just saw a flash of green and he was gone. When I finally reached the Cave he was waiting there.
"Why'd you take so long?" He asked smiling innocently.
"How the fvck did u do that?! Did you get a power?! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!" I screeched.
Jack scratched the back of his neck and laughed, "I found out about a week ago. I was running late for class so I was swimming as fast as I could and I just cut a 6 minute swim into 30 seconds. "
"Ugggg!!! I've been hoping I'd get a power since I've been little and you got yours before me! Not fair," I grumbled. I had been dreaming of getting a power, though it is a very rare thing to have. Ever since I saw a mermaid turn invisible I knew I wanted a power that would make me different and respected.
We walked into the Cave and found a group of our friends already there. They each had their own jobs, though none of them were sirens like me and Jack.
There was Sam, he had jet black hair and electric blue eyes that matches his tail. He's a guard who helps protect the people from humans. Then there's Max. Her full name is Maxine but call her that and she'll rip your head off. She's brunette with brown eyes and an orange tail. She's a crafter, the merfolk who make everything, from clothes to buildings. Finn is an amazing chef with blond hair, brown eyes, and a purple tail. Jack has a green tail, brown eyes, and brown hair. And me? I'm blonde with green eyes a red tail and currently am wearing an awesome black top that says darling it's better down where it's wetter.
"No! The Swimmers are way better than Shark Waves. " argued Finn.
"Really? Arguing about bands again" I laughed.
" Caly tell Sam that the Swimmers are better. He just doesn't understand their amazingness."
"Sorry Finn but Sam's right. The Shark Waves are a hundred times better."
"No one understands good music!" Finn threw his hands into the air and walked away. A waiter came up to us and took our smoothie orders. After an hour of hanging out we went home to start another boring and scheduled day.
