Many hundreds of years ago, my ancestor Sandy Kane was best friends with a mermaid, Ariel Mooringsdale. They had known each other since they were 6 years old. They were the kind of best friends you here about, like sisters who went on adventures and wanted the best for each other.
When they were 17 years old they decided to go look at an old shipwreck. They knew it was dangerous there because there were many unfriendly sharks around. Many that loved the taste of young merfolk. But like all teens they were sure nothing bad would ever happen to them. So they went.
The wreck was enormous and grand. Old human things littered the sea floor, magnificent chandeliers were still hanging, and old skeletons were lying in their watery grave. The ship's name was the Titanic.
"Woah," Sandy said. "This is amazing"
"Ready to go find some dead human things?" Ariel asked with a devilish smirk.
Sandy smirked back, "the mermaid to find the least amount of cool things has to carry all the stuff home. "
"You're on!"
Sandy swam into a huge ballroom, looking for treasures, while Ariel looked in the cabins. Sandy found some jewelry, coins, a shoe, plastic flowers, vases, and pieces of a chandelier. Ariel found a fork (A/N :P it's sad if u don't know where that's from), jewelry, makeup, soft blankets, human clothes, and a photo frame that kept a family's picture safe. They met back at the hull of the ship with bags full of wonders. They counted how much they each had.
"Ugggg we got the same number of individual things. Let's go back and find some more so we aren't tied." Ariel said.
"Sure lets g-" Sandy froze.
"Sandy? What's wrong? Why are you turning pale?"
And then Ariel turned around. Behind her was an enormous great white shark, one of the few sea creatures that are mermaids.
"Slowly back away," Ariel murmured.
As they backed up, the shark growled.
Ariel waved and yelled, "Goodbye shark. Bolt Sandy!!"
My ancestor swam about 60ft when she heard a blood curling shriek. Ariel's tail was bleeding profusely. And because they were so close, Sandy swam back for her.
"No. Get out of here or you'll be killed. " Ariel yelled.
"No! You're my sister. I'm not leaving you."
The shark was about to bite Sandy when Ariel yelled a gut wrenching yell and threw her hand out. A purple beam of energy bloomed out and disintegrated the great white shark. The girls silently swam back home, shaking. Ariel was checked by doctors and eventually se healed like nothing happened except there were scars on her tail.
Many years went by and Ariel honed her energy skills with Sandy by her side. She discovered that different forms of energy would come from her hands depending on the intensity of emotion she felt. She also learned that what she could give off, she could also take. She could take the life energy from living things and absorb it within herself. However, taking the energy would make her weak, but not as weak as she would have felt if the life energy didn't heal her a little. She used that energy to help heal the sick. She would take life from a plant and give it to the folk or a sick animal. However, she couldn't bring back anything from the dead. And each time she would try to use her power, she would feel tired and hungry.
The folk called her a hero but she could feel herself slowly dying. She told Sandy all this so Sandy said that if she ever needed it, she could absorb some of her life energy. Ariel, not wanting to hurt my ancestor refused immediately. Then one day, the best friends were traveling to a nearby city when they encountered a fishing ship. They were so scared and panicked, getting trapped in the net.
They were hauled on board with some evil looking men. A man who had a hook for a hand took one look at Ariel and gutted her like humans do to all fish. Then he sneered at Sandy and said words that she remembered for the rest of her life.
"Go back home little fishy and tell your friends that these waters belong to us. And if we ever see any of your kind again, well, you see what happened to your friend."
She was tossed overboard and she swam as fast as she could back home. When she got there, she burst into tears. She told everyone what happened and then went to her room. She didn't come out for a month and had food delivered to her room. Even after she came out, she didn't talk for a long time.
Ms. Kane shakily sighed, "So that's all I know about fire sirens. I hope it helped you girls. "
Then she got up and swam away.
