Sirens

For The First Time in Forever

It seemed like the world got ten times hotter. Instinctively, I pushed my arms out at the mermen and I felt my palms heat up. A burst of blazing hot fire burst out of my hands, burning the men. They fell to the ground with blisters forming on their bodies. Max stared at me shocked.

"What. Was. THAT?!" She yelled.

"I DON'T KNOW!! It just happened. We need to get out before anyone else gets here. "

Max nodded and we swam out of the door. We came to many forks in the halls and always took the left, just like my father told me. Eventually we found a highall (a/n it's like stairs and let's them swim up. Kinda like an elevator shaft ) and swam up to the exit. When we got out, we found out we were in a fancy neighborhood that a few of our classmates lived in.

"Should we tell anyone what happened? What if they find us again or have connections in the police?" Max asked.

"I think we can pretend that nothing happened. It's safer that way I think and we haven't been gone long. They won't kill us for telling people. But I do wanna test my powers." I replied.

"Yah. What was that anyway. It seemed like fire was coming out of your hands. But it can't be that, we live under water. "

"I'm going to do some research when I get home to find out. I don't think it's normal."

"Ya", she shakily took a breath. "I'll look up if I can find anything about our captors. If my parents find out I won't be able to set a fin out of the house. "

"Kk. See ya Max. Be safe."

"You too fitch. You too. Though I'm sure your power will keep you safe." She smirked.

I swam into the house and no one was home. Looking at the clock I could see it has been 3 hours since I left school. My parents would be home any minute. I swam up to my room and took out my Kelp Laptop to look up my power. It definitely wasn't a common one. After looking around for about a 30min, I finally found something that helped.

"Fire Sirens are the most rare type of merfolk. Getting their powers in mid to late teens, fire sirens can control and create a powerful fire that can burn through any material. Their power is not limited to fire and can control all types of energy. Weakness: Unknown. Total extent of power: Unknown. Last fire siren was seen in 1666 known as Ariel Mooringsdale. She was killed by a human." I read aloud.

"I'm the first fire siren in forever. Too bad she's dead so she can't help me figure this stuff out." I muttered to myself.

Then I stood up, ready to try working my power again. I tried thrusting my arms out in different ways like I did before. I tried magic words but nothing seemed to work.

"Maybe I need to be in danger..."

"CALY! IM HOME!" My mother called from downstairs.

"OK!" I called back. "IM DOING RESEARCH!"

My mother replied that she would make dinner and I went back to looking up fire sirens. At least I now knew what I was called so it would be easier to research. Sadly, other websites didn't have any extra information that the first one provided. I texted Max all the things I discovered and went down for dinner. Once I came back to my room I saw that Max had replied.

The mrfok who kidnapped us might be a part of the Great White gang. They collect mrfok to trade with pirates for money and supplies. -MX

We were almost traded to HUMANS?! They would have killed us- Caly

Supposedly they use us for something else. Maybe put us on display so other filthy humans pay to c us. Gonna do more research. Gn xx - MX

I thought of all the things that happened today and how close I came to loosing everything.

"I'm sure something like that will never happen again. I'll just focus on working my powers" I sleepily murmured.

Then I got ready for bed and went to sleep, dreaming of powers, humans, and the land above.
