Hey guys! I hope everyone had a great holiday. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who is voting and leaving feedback. I know every one says it, but coming from somebody who's dream goal is to become a published author, I hope you all can try to understand how grateful I am for your support and encouragement! So please, keep them coming and don't be afraid to criticize!

One more thing, does anyone have any good book suggestions? I have some gift cards to use for a local book store and I'm really excited to use them, but don't know what to read next! Thanks!! :)

The rest of the week went by quickly, and before I knew it, I was leaving school and on my way home to pack the last of my things to head to the lake house with my parents.

I arrived home and ran upstairs to finalize everything. Running through a checklist in my head, I closed my bags up and carried them downstairs and set them by the door, waiting for my parents. I was excited, a weekend away was just what I needed.

"Mom, Dad?" I called out, realizing I hadn't heard them at all since I got home. I went to the kitchen, which was empty. No note either. I searched the rest of the bottom floor and was about to go back upstairs when my phone started going off. I pulled it out and answered it.

      "Hello?" I answered.

"Jasmine, Dr. Westfield has fallen very ill and I have to cover for him. Your father was just going to bring you up and I was going to meet you guys tomorrow, but they found a lead on his case and they had to fly to Washington. I'm so sorry honey, I knew you were so excited for this. We'll get up there before the winter, I promise," My mom said.

"Oh, okay. I understand, no problem," I replied, hiding my disappointment.

"I'll talk to you later honey, I have to go. I love you and I'm so sorry again," and with that she hung up. I looked at my bags and sighed in disappointment. She was right, I was really excited for this. My parents are always so busy and I rarely get to see
them. But with a surgeon and detective as parents, you get kind of used to it.

I grabbed my bags and dragged them back to my room, throwing them in the corner before flopping down on my bed. A few tears escaped my eyes, taking me by surprise. I usually didn't cry too often, and this seemed a little stupid to be crying over.

"Get over yourself," I said out loud. I turned some music on and grabbed my phone, unlocking it and scrolling through my games. I finally decided on Flappy Bird and started tapping the screen furiously.

I didn't know how long I'd been playing, but the game lagged and I died, right about to beat my high score. I screamed in frustration, about to throw my phone but the reason why it had lagged caught my eye. I had a new text message.

~Hey, have fun this weekend. Enjoy the time with your family. I'll try not to bother you too much 😏☺️.~

Another sigh escaped my mouth, my disappointment returning.

           ~Bother all you want. I'm not going.~

I tossed my phone aside, but couldn't help but watch it, waiting for it to go off again. It took a few minutes.

                   Dan😛☺️💕
           ~Why not? Did something happen?~

~My parents and their stupid jobs happened.~

I felt bad, I wasn't really trying to blame them. I know they didn't do it on purpose, and neither of them had
had jobs that they could just skip a few days and have no repercussions.
