Chapter 17
Mel's P.O.V.
Down the stairs, through my father, then Ethen and I was out the door on a date with Danny. A real date, I'd only been a couple of these things and they didn't really go too well. Better luck this time. Danny looked sexy as hell in a collared shirt and there was no denying it even if I wanted to. An older rock station was playing in the back ground and I couldn't help but bob my head.
"I want you to want me, I need you to need me." I hummed along under my breath. I glanced over to Danny who's fingers were tapping to the beat, his head bobbing as well. He reached down turning it up then sang along a bit.
"I'd love for you to love me, I'm begging you to beg me." He mumbled along under his breathe. I couldn't help but smile. I bobbed my head and sang along quietly with Danny.
His right hand rested in the center console, gently tapping in rhythm with the fingers that held the wheel. Should I grab his hand? Does he even want to hold my chunky fingers in his? Did I want to risk that awkward feeling? Yes. Was I going to do it? No.
Before I could think more about Danny and his hands he laced our fingers together in a swift motion and tapped the beat on the back of my hand. He gave me a small squeeze.
"This IS technically a date, the least you could do is hold my hand. I don't bite." He said sending me a small wink with a smirk.
"Unless you ask but of course." He said in a deep voice, just low enough for me to hear over the music. A mix between a small gasp and chuckle left my lips as I felt the heat rise to my face. He just laughed it off. Something fluttered in my chest but I forced it down with anxiety.
"So what are we doing?" I asked deciding to ignore his 'sly' comment. He just hummed.
"Look out the window." He said with a trace of excitement. His hand gripped mine tighter as I quickly looked out the window. Lights, flashing lights, actual. Red, orange, blue and white, of a Farris wheel. The more I focused the more I could hear the roar of people on roller coasters. People in carts whipped by, arms flailing, laughter and screams of happiness (some terror) piercing through the cracked windows. I quickly turned to Danny with a wide spread grin as he turned in to the parking lot.
"We are at a carnival." I said letting the giddy feeling take over.
"Damn right we are." He exclaimed with a smile. He pulled out the keys and jumped out racing to my side. I beat him getting out of the car, bag over shoulder, his hand in mine as I raced forward. I heard him laughing as he caught up to my side at the end of one of the shortest ticket lines.
"Sorry, I haven't been to one of these in years." I said sheepishly, color reaching my face. He just grinned and squeezed my hand.
"Me either, that's why we're here." He said with grin that probably matched mine. The older couple ahead with a few kids finally moved aside and we stepped forward to a girl with a blonde pixie cut and big, round, blue eyes. She batted her eyelashes the minute she saw Danny and ran a hand through her hair getting it out of her face. Her dull, red lips puckered a bit as she leaned forward exposing some more cleavage than before.
"How can I help you, beautiful?" She asked in my direction. My face flushed immediately and I stumbled over an answer.
"We'll have two all-ride wrist bands." Danny said harshly dropping my hand and wrapping his arm tightly around my waist pulling me into him. I looked down trying to ignore the very raging lesbian looking me up and down. She huffed a bit and shuffled around the small stall she was in. Nothing against her, this has just never happened before.
"Have a good time and just call me if he tries anything." She said throwing me a wink after handing Danny the wrist bands. We walked away and I fiddled to get my band on straight without the sticky part ripping off the skin on my arm. Danny stopped us and grabbed wrist, rolling up my sleeve before taking the band and securing it on my wrist properly.
