Chapter 31

Ethen was discharged an hour later after sitting on the oxygen. Dad text me that they were coming down and would not be pleased at his son seeing us naked. His words. I sent him a selfie of us curled up in the back, Danny had dozed off. I made sure he was awake and we were a good foot apart before they were at the car though. He seemed a little tired lately, even before everything.

"Can we go back to the party? I wanna say sorry, it tasted good though. Your sister can pick some good food." Ethen asked as they loaded up in the car. Dad made me sit in the back with Ethen and Danny in the front. Dad glanced to me in the rearview mirror and sighed, then chuckled.

"I guess I can't say no to an apology. When is it supposed to end?" He asked glancing to Danny.

"Around six. It's only four ish." He said. It had seemed to slip my mind that it was still the middle of the day. This car had some well tinted windows. It seemed like the evening. And it didn't help that I was ready for bed.

"Alright so back to the party we go."

The ride back didn't take as long as it did to get there and it seemed like a few people had left, might not have been from the party though. We all made our way back in to the reception hall and just about everyone was with a pair dancing. Slow music lead everyone and you could spot Tyler and Carter in the center. I didn't recognize it but I was guessing it was their song. Dad and Ethen were to my left and Danny stood to my right with an arm around my waist. I left my small bag in the car this time instead and rested my head on his shoulder. My right arm found it's way up around his waist as well and we swayed as we waited for he song to end. It didn't take long before it did and everyone let out a light clap for the happy couple.

"Is that your sister?' Ethen asked Danny sounding a little worried. Danny nodded.

"Yup, but don't worry. She's nice." He said giving him a reassuring smile. Carter spotted us as the music picked up again and she started her way over with a wide smile.

"I'm so happy to see that you're okay. You could have gone and gotten some rest. I'm Carter by the way. I don't think I have officially gotten to meet you yet." She exclaimed squatting down to his level. Tyler followed her and watched the exchange with a smile. Ethen simply smiled back to her.

"You're Danny's sister and you look very pretty today." He started off with a small lisp. It only came up when was really nervous. "I just wanted to say sorry for being in the way at your wedding. I forget sometimes but it tasted good." He said hopeful. He had repeated the words that we always said with a sheepish grin but Carter never lost her smile.

"Well thank you but you are more than okay. It was purely accident and the food hadn't been labeled, but I'm glad it was good. I'm even more glad that you are okay, you didn't even have to apologize." She said with a smile. Ethen grinned back at her with a sigh of relief.

"I hope you have a happy life." He said with his thousand watt smile. She grinned back at him and stood.

"Would you like to dance?" She asked leaving her hand out for him while glancing to my dad. He gave her a curt nod and she grinned as Ethen took her hand. Two Pieces by Demi Lovato began as they stepped forward. A grin made it's way to my face before a gasp as I found myself being pushed forward. Danny was equally confused as his grip loosened and I shot my father a look.

"Go dance while you have the chance." He mumbled to the both of us. Danny finally stepped forward and offered his hand to me. I softly grabbed it wondering if my face coloring matched how I felt. We stepped together into the crowd and his arm rested around my waist as mine came up around his neck. We swayed to the song and he twirled me once as it picked up. Of course neither of us knew what we were doing but we were just dancing and living and I was thankful for that. Danny pulled me back, flushed into him and we were mere inches apart.
