Chapter 15

Something was poking my butt.

Repeatedly, sharp, little pokes.

My right hand swatted it away and I curled back under the blanket and closer to my pill- this wasn't a pillow. This was Danny's chest, couch, dinner. It all flooded back to me at once and I groaned letting my eyes open. It was dark in the room and I looked straight up to Danny, who was still asleep. His head was tilted back and his lips were parted the slightest. The tips of his bangs barely fell over the creases of his eyes.

"Come on, dad's setting the table." Ethen said giggling. I froze, oh god my dad probably saw us. I was practically on top of him with his arms wrapped tight around me. My left arm was up around his neck and my right was across his stomach. Our legs were a tangled mess with the blanket draped over us. A blush crept to my face and I poked Danny's nose.

"Time to eat." I said. His eyes fluttered open and even in the dark you could still see the intense green color they held. He mumbled some words I couldn't understand then sat up with his arms still tightly around me. I squealed in response and clung to him scarred to fall on to the thin rug that covered dark, hardwood floors. He squeezed my sides and chuckled. I shivered at the deep sound that erupted from his throat in said chuckle. My hair fell to the right and he kissed my left temple.

"I'm not letting you go anywhere, don't worry." He whispered. A warmth came over me at his words. It was oddly comforting. His voice was gravely and deep but it was still light with a form of happiness, like he was almost giddy. Was he really that happy to wake up like this?

"You guys ready to eat?" My dad voice fell over the room and I feel to the left of Danny and I on to the couch. It just hit me that my legs were wrapped around his waist with me on his lap. My father found this a great time to laugh at us. Ethen looked between my red face, Danny's red face, and my dad's red laughing face and decided to laugh as well. I groaned and rubbed my face standing up. The cold hit my legs sending goose bumps across my body. I groaned again. I just freaking shaved, what the hell world. I made my way past them and in to the kitchen to grab some water. I chugged a majority of the bottle then opened the oven door. I touched the back of my hand to the lasagna. It had cooled pretty significantly so I closed the door and turned it back on to 400f just to heat it up. I rested against the counter and sighed, I defiantly didn't mean to fall asleep. Oops? I heard someone enter the kitchen so I turned and was greeted with my father.

"I'm so sorry, we didn't mean to fall asleep we just watched the movie." I paused and scratched my forehead. "Sorry." I added quickly.

"Why are you apologizing?" He asked chuckling.

"Because.." I trailed on thinking. I was saying sorry for no reason, as usual.

"Because I, we were disgustingly snuggled on the couch and you said no funny business?" I said shrugging my shoulders. He chuckled.

"Melanie, I trust you. If I had been worried I would have come straight home. I know that you aren't going to have unsafe sex all over my kitchen, and if it is happening make sure it IS safe and DEFFINETLY not on my kitchen counters." I groaned and face palmed. My face was, I'm sure, the color of an apple.

"Oh my god, just stop. I get it, you trust me. Now go make fun of your other kid. Dinner needs to re-heat." I said walking past him and to my room. I could hear him laughing all the way up the stairs. I entered my room and shut the door behind me. I slid down it with a sigh shutting my eyes, finally peace.

"You okay?" I was startled by Danny's voice cutting the silence and glance towards him.

"What are you doing up here?" I asked jumping up and walking towards him. He was sitting on my bed by the wall, phone connected to charger in hand.
