Rolling Stone's Article

Okay, so I need to get this out of system. I'm getting mad, and confused and this shouldn't affect my life his much, but it does and I'm just upset.

This is my opinion don't hate me for it.

I don't believe what was said in that article. Or, at least not all of it. I'm not excusing what they said, but I also think it's was so forward and just blunt to be 100% true.

So, what was said in the article was awful. I mean, it wasn't entirely objectification against women, but it still was? Like, when Luke 'smirked' and just casually talked about his sex life, it was weird and made me uncomfortable. Especially because they 'interviewed' his girlfriend, someone who should be the only person he's having sex with. It was also so cringeworthy how that part of the article was written. Kinda like a cheeped out fanfiction some 14 year old wrote.

Calum saying he'd use a girl and sex for band publicity was wrong as well, but Calum has already been confirmed as shy. He gets shy on camera when he's doing something goofy or 'weird', so this really confused me. Why would he just flat out say he'd make a sex type because the band needed hype? I mean, yeah, he was kinda 'cocky' when the whole snapchat thing happened, but he was so blunt that it sounded fabricated.

And then there's Arzaylea. Now, she's already confirmed that the interview with her never happened. But that's not why I believed her. Someone looked up Arzaylea's job online, and they found something interesting. If you look up 'What does Arzaylea do for a living?' and you click on the second most relevant link, everything Arzaylea said to the interview is on that website. And to make things more shady, the website with the RS article match up was published in September. So yes, that stuff Arzaylea said was said. Just not in that article.

Another reason I find this article hard to believe was the flow of the demographic. It went from "sexsexsexsexsexsex. girlsgirlsgirlsgirlsgirls. partiespartiesparties" to "depression sucks. And working in a place where your forces into closed proximities doesn't benefit mental health" so fast. Any good writer or publicist knows how to segue(tie/connect points) paragraphs in articles. But this was just messy and so badly written.

Ashton and Michael didn't seem to mess up either, and to me, they tried to make the younger boys of the band sound ignorant and the older boys sound calm, collected and well not douchey. And they did a good job of that. Ashton's comment on 'wanting to be for everyone' didn't bother me because music doesn't have a gender and to me all he said was that he wanted to see more gender diversity in the fanbase. And Michael wanted to talk about stuff that related album and real world stuff. Mashton did nothing wrong, so I'm not gonna talk about them much.

{SIDE NOTE}: Justin and Michael also tweeted each other about the article. Justin said he doesn't remember playing his music at his party, and that he didn't even know 5SOS was there because he's never met them before. Michael went on to say that he didn't know why that statement was in the article, apologizing for the confusion. That right there, along with the Arzaylea interview only shows that part of the article had been fabricated.

Now, Cake fucked up, and yeah I get that. But people in this fandom act like they've never sexualized 5SOS before. There is smut that varies from vanilla sex, BDMS, and even RAPE written about the boys. They are tweeted daily that 'daddy, fuck me.' 'Crush my pussy with your monster cock!' 'Eat me out while I'm on my period like you eat ketchup off your fires' and so much more. Let's not forget sex edits and signs made for shows that say 'let me eat your dick like a banana' 'I want you inside'.

Fans treat 5SOS like sex icons that they want in their beds. Also, some fans slut shame 5SOS' girlfriends, and I can bet you anything  they still call Calum 'Ching Chong'. So fans acting like they've never seen ignorance in this fandom, or that we as a group sexualize the boys is laughable.

I find this article too blunt, forward and ignorant to be real. Especially because even if they said this shit, and didn't think before they thought, the editor himself still wouldn't have made them sound like assholes. They would have made sure the boys sounded less arrogant. And the fact that through the interview, editing, and publishers approval, no one thought this was offensive seems a little sketchy as well.

I'm not defending these boys. You can't defend what was said. But I also can't hate them. I'm just...I guess I'm just disappointed. Especially since they haven't said a thing. I mean, I get it, they're with their families an this is probably causing stress and embarrassment for them. But there is something weird about this article. Something that makes it so hard to believe the validity of it.

I'm not leaving the fandom, I don't hate the boys.  I'm just tired and confused. I want answers, and just wish the boys would say something already. I don't think they're misogynistic or assholes. For right, they're just stupid. Stupid stupid boys that messed up, big time. But don't forget all the other great things they've done for us. How much they love and appreciate us. That can disappear that fast.

Just, don't give up on them. Please.

Oh.

Also, keep this in mind: you don't have to be ignorant or bad to say or do ignorant or bad things. Even the people who you think are absolutely perfect can be the ones who fuck up the most.
