I kissed him. He kissed me back. It was nothing like Jake. It was like...a fairy tale. Those mushy-gushy fairy tales that children don't really get, but like anyways. I pulled away. I gave him a nervous glance and ran out of the library.
'Wait, Emily!" Hunter called out to me. I quickly grabbed my bike and rode home.
When I got home, I parked my bike in the garage and ran to my room. Once I got up, I immediately flopped down onto my bed and let out a muffled scream.
My mom came up and sat down on the edge of the bed. She started to rub my back in small circular motions.
"What's wrong, sweetie?"
I turned over on my back. "Jake was...cheating on me. And then, when I found out, I rode my bike to the library and cried in the corner of the Teens section. Then, Hunter saw me, helped me up, hugged me, and then I-"
"You what, sweetie?"
"I-I- I kissed him. Then, I ran out and rode my back back here."
"Oh, sweetie." She said, rubbing my forehead in sympathy. "Love is--love is just a mess, you know? It's gonna have it's ups and downs."
"Well, mom. For me, love is mostly downs than ups. And they've been some pretty painful and confusing downs."
