First Date's a Charm

Preston's heart beat hard as he tied his tie, preparing to take Kayla out for the first time. Granted he was posing as her fake fiancé, but he was nervous and excited nonetheless. He decided that he wouldn't focus on kissing and doting on her; instead, he wanted that night to be about gaining her trust and having her see that he would be there or her in any situation.

Around seven, Preston was finally ready, and went to "pick up" Kayla. It was his idea to make it seem real, a part of his plan to win her back, and Kayla rolled with it. She didn't care about anything but making it through the night without crying on Preston. She was determined to be strong in the face of the man that hurt her.

"Knock knock! You ready, Kay?" Preston called from outside her door as Kayla giggled, opening it.

"I have never been more ready. Let's do it," she nodded as Preston prevented her from moving.

"Wait, wait. I got you some flowers," he grinned as he lifted the bouquet from behind him, grinning widely at her.

"Awh, you didn't have to. That's so sweet," she grinned as Preston kissed her cheek, handing over the flowers.

"There's a florist just downstairs. I told her what I was doing, and she said to tell you hello. She really likes you for whatever reason," he teased.

"Oh, shut up! She likes me because I bring her breakfast every weekend," Kayla answered as Preston shrugged.

"Eh, you're alright, I guess," he chuckled, lifting her hand in his. Kayla looked down at the intertwined set and rose her eyebrow at him. "Just tonight, I know."

"As long as you know. Let's do it... Oh, and thank you, Pres. You're pretty good at this friend thing."

"You're pretty good at making me this way," Preston replied smoothly as he lead Kayla out and off to their date.

"You're kidding, right?" Preston frowned as Kayla choked on her water, not trying to laugh too loudly.

"Yes, Pres! He wears a sweater vest everyday, and the weather doesn't matter. He loves those things," Kayla giggled as Preston straightened his tie.

"I wish you would've told me. I would've worn one in tribute to his obsession."

"That's actually exactly why I didn't tell you," she laughed as Preston shoved her with his shoulder. "Oh, there he is."

"This guy? Plaid pants?" Preston whispered as Kayla shook her head no.

He looked behind the man in plaid to see a large man in a sweater vest with a woman next to him that was around his age. Kayla explained that her ex was thirty-three and Preston had teased her about the age difference. But now, as he looked at the man, he had nothing to say. Preston was 6'4 and 190lbs, nothing compared to the body-built, short and stalky type guy. Preston swallowed hard and looked at Kayla with wide eyes. She blushed and looked down. Preston grabbed her hand to assure her he was still there for her, and he stood up, pretending to not see the large man.

"Why didn't you tell me he was Hulk Hogan's darker twin brother?" Preston said lowly to her as she giggled. "I mean, seriously! I would've ran harder this morning if I knew that was the case. Christ woman!" he said, eliciting more laughs. Preston tilted her head up and smiled when he saw how her face lightened.

"You are crazy," she replied, taking a breath as Preston shrugged.

"I don't care as long as you're smiling. I just want you to relax tonight. And if I didn't tell you before, you're the most beautiful woman in the world, and I like you... a lot," he grinned, watching her smile harder.
