Confusion and Heartbreak
"Your husband is cute! And your daughter, oh my goodness, she's scrumptious," Kayla said to Erica as they sat down in Kayla's favorite restaurant.
"He's the love of my life and so is my daughter. And now that I'm pregnant again, we're thinking of moving closer to family, which is here in L.A. where you and Preston are. My parents... they're dead, but I have you guys and I cannot miss any more time with you. We've become different people and we've missed so much of each other's lives. I need my best friend back," Erica smiled as Kayla nodded.
"It was so hard, and I'm sure it was harder for you than for me."
"It was excruciating. If it weren't for Samaad, I'd lose my mind. So, Pres told me his side of the story, but I wanna hear yours," she nodded eagerly as the waiter set their drinks on the table.
"Well, right when you left, the Olympics began. I surprised him and he couldn't believe it. After dinner with his parents, we went back to the hotel, where I asked him to take my innocence. The next morning, we were cuddling and then he took me to the window. He proposed and I couldn't say no because I wanted that, but I also had college to think about. I said yes, but the next day, I ended up leaving him with a note. It turns out I was the glue holding him together and vice versa. While he was getting drunk, I was trapped in a relationship I knew was going nowhere. My ex left me at the alter and I was relieved but it hurt that he couldn't have told me earlier. Anyway, I saw Preston had gotten in trouble and his mom called me. She offered me a job to work with and represent him. I took it, bailed him out, he banged me the first night, and we've been connected ever since. We've been through so much together in just four months, but it was all to get to this point of happiness in our lives," Kayla explained as her best friend smile.
"Well, he loves you. Right before you got here, he was talking about marriage and how serious he is about you. And that baby, he's the sweetest little thing I've ever seen. He's such a precious soul, but he is just like his father!" screeched Erica as they laughed together.
"He is, he is. I'm just so blessed to have him. Before they came into my life, I was depressed. I had this firm that was doing so well and I work for a non-profit, so my work life was very fulfilling, but when I got home, I felt so empty. It was a really dark point in my life, especially because my mother and father were divorced and I didn't speak to my dad. It was bad. But then Pres and Brayden changed that for me. I'm a completely different person than I was a year ago, and I like the happier me better," Kayla smiled.
"Has motherhood changed you?"
"It's the biggest thing that's changed me. Our situation is different from other people because Brayden's real mom is a high functioning addict. She'd never seen him until he was one and I'd already been around for awhile so he was calling me Mommy. She said she didn't feel like his mom and I told her if she wanted visitation, she'd have to be clean. I found this place that specializes in rehab for mothers and sent her there. So, that was apart of motherhood that you don't read about or see in movies. I had to deal with Preston's guilt because he felt he ruined her life, and then I had to deal with her. It's been kinda crazy, but she's getting better. And of course, Brayden is such a good baby, but he has his days where he thinks he's the king of the world and he doesn't have to listen, so I'll have to pop him and he'll make a big deal, but he always says 'sowwy mommy.' He's something else, but the biggest thing I've learned from him is that he's going to love me no matter what and I love him the same. Everyday, when I come home, he runs to me and jumps in my arms. He's become my best friend and... I love him. What about you?" questioned Kayla as she began eating her pasta.
