I dried my curls letting them hang down my back, Zayn watching from my bed. We were going to the park and I decided to wear shorts, the hot weather contrasting greatly with any other clothing.

They were a light wash denim complimented by the simple loose fitting tank adorning my upper half.

"Could you bring me my boots?" I asked politely, referring to the light brown ankle boots with bits of white lace on the sides.

"These?"

I gave a shy nod, offering a small smile when he picked them up and brought them over.

"Thank you." I tugged the foot wear up and gave one last glance in the mirror.

"You look perfect'" He spoke wrapping his arms around my waist. A heat quickly rose to my cheeks, a feeling I got a lot around Zayn.

I rested my head on his chest, letting my body lean against his front. He easily sustained my weight. I felt him gently kiss the top of my head, feeling just as content with this situation as me.

Zayn's head rested on my lap as we sat under the tree he had brought me to once before. I had grown rather fond of the unique nature setting.

More people wandered around the park today, lots of children playing silly games. I watched through the draping of shrubbery surrounding us. Many couples walking along the empty trails, simply enjoying each others company.

"I like your hair." He spoke twirling one of my waist length curls around his finger. The dark brown strand springing back when he released it.

"Not quite as perfect as your hair." I teased running my fingers through the stylish quiff. He didn't seem to mind when I ran my fingers through it, gently scratching his scalp as I went along. A quiet hum of appreciation was granted as I gently combed the hair at the nape of his neck.

"Zayn, where is your family?"

He quickly ceased his hands that were tugging softly at my curls. It was a question I had asked only once before, and much like the first time he seemed very reluctant towards the topic.

"I don't know where my dad is, as for my mum and sisters, there back in Bradford." There was such remorse in his voice.

"Why don't you talk to them?"

He sat up rustling in his pockets. I watched as he pulled out a carton of cigarettes, quickly lighting one. He took the bitter cylinder of tobacco between his lips, inhaling the hazardous substance. I watched as he continued to do this, puffing out smoke every few seconds.

"What happened?" I persisted.

He continued to ignore the question, reaching for another cigarette. This time my small hand stopped him, wrapping my fingers between his. I kissed the expanse of his palm, trying my best to calm his obvious on edge state of mind. He looked up locking his captivating orbs on own.

"I scared them away." His voice was thick with regret.

"What do you mean?"

**ZAYN FLAHSBACK**

"Why would you do this! You know I could help! Just talk to me." My mum pleaded through her heavy stream of tears.

"Me and Liam have to go. I can't let you guys get hurt. I just can't."

I threw my things in a bag. Carelessly picking random items. I knew Caleb's men were on their way and I had to hurry before they came.

"But Zayn what about your sisters, they love you. Don't leave them."

"Please mum don't make this any harder."

"Sweetheart we can work thi-"

A loud banging interrupted her sentence. I knew exactly who it was. Panic to over my senses as I quickly rushed down the stairs. My sisters were frantically hiding in a corner as one of Caleb's men invited himself inside.

"Get the fuck out! They have nothing to do with this and you know that!"

"Come on Malik, this is just a little motivation to pay up. Liam's mother certainly enjoyed our company." He dryly laughed tugging Waliyah up by her hair. My fist tightened, knuckles turning a pale shade of white.

"Let her go." I spat between clenched teeth. The smile he wore told me he was going to do anything but.

My feet carried me inches away from his body. Our eyes locking, each filled with rage. He roughly dropped my sister letting her fall to the ground. I couldn't take it anymore I pounced on him. My fists attacked his face, drawing more blood with each hit. I just kept hitting him, long after I felt his body go unconscious.

"Zayn stop! Your killing him!" My mums voice snapped me out of my anger filled state.

I climbed off of him, looking at the crumpled body that lay seemingly lifeless on the ground. I turned to see my families faces full of fear. Fear of me.

"I-I just wanted to protect you." My hand reached out only to be quickly rejected by my mother. She rushed to my sisters hugging them tight.

"Please. I didn't mean to scare you." I pleaded. They just sat there staring at me with wide, fearful eyes.

**END OF FLAHSBACK**

"I left that night. I haven't been back since."

Zayn's eyes never met mine, to ashamed to look at me.

"Zayn I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." I stressed grabbing his face gently with my hands.

"It's all my fault Juliet. I couldn't stop. I just kept hitting him and hitting him. I lost control. And worst of all I put them in danger."

My heart broke at his defeated tone. He seemed so lost, so broken.

"You made a mistake, you can't blame yourself forever. You were trying to protect them."

His eyes met mine. I offered a kind hearted smile. "No matter what, they love you. I know that much." I placed a small kiss to his cheek.

"Don't be to sure." His voice was regaining its usual edge.

"I'm not sure, I'm hopeful. Sometimes that's all we can be."
