I stood there staring at her motionless body, aching at the fact that this glass wall was separating me from her. The ICU was full of those dying, various illnesses overcoming their failing immune systems. To think Juliet was now among those living their last days made me cringe.
"Mr.Malik, seems you've become quite accustom to this place." Dr. Roads never ceased to show up.
"I suppose my luck has run out."
"These are our friends."
"Have they spoken with you all about her?"
A multitude of solemn nods were given, non vocally requesting him to inform us.
"She is not well, she lost blood, and a lot of it. Her, heart is failing and her lungs are filled with blood. The bluet has been lodged in her left lung and without surgery she'll die. The only problem is surgery is not an option for her. Her body isn't strong enough to go under and wake up. Our only option is to drain the fluid obtaining her lungs, but it is only a temporary fix. Were playing a dangerous waiting game but it's all we can do."
"I should've gotten in the way, I should've protected her." Ally spoke up angry tears streaming done her cheeks.
"Listen the police are on their way to question you all, and I'm guessing whatever happened isn't necessarily legal. Juliet has informed me of your plan to run away and I'm going to make it possible. This is what is going to happen, you all are to follow me and continue on route, Zayn you will stay and me and you are going to do something incredibly illegal. Juliet isn't going to die on my watch and you all aren't going to jail. A better explanation will be offered later but for now you all need to hurry along." He hurried us in a small blocked off hallway and gave each of them a bag. The contents of the small satchels were money, disposable cell phones, and a change of clothes. I didn't know Dr. Roads, and I wasn't entirely sure why he was helping us, but it appeared that Juliet knew him all too well.
"Y'all head on out and be safe. Juliet is going to be just fine."
They all gave appreciated looks, their eyes wide with emotion. My friends were never ones for goodbyes so subtle head nods we're given to replace the words we couldn't say.
"As for you, we need to get Juliet out of this hospital."
"How?"
"Son, that's where it gets tricky. But first I want to tell you that I'm a friend of your mothers, Juliet found that out and confided in me, she's not keeping any dark secrets. I'm no ex con or anything like that I'm simply a friend. Your mother and I go a long ways back and I'll be damned if I watch you go down for simply trying to save the ones you love." He stated placing his hands firmly on my shoulders.
I wanted to thank him and praise him for all of this, but I couldn't find the words. Nothing seemed to be sufficient enough.
I opened my mouth to speak but words were coming out.
"Let's go son." he quietly spoke. My eyes peered at him saying all I had tried to.
